Walk along the Regent Canal starting from Moo Canoes on the marina. You will pass Ragged School Musuem, a Victorian school for under previledged children. Continue walking on the side of Mile End Park to Victoria Park. Have a relaxing stroll in Victoria Park. Stop at Pavillion Cafe for a coffee. Alternatively, after walking half of the Victoria Park, you can head to Lauriston Road in South Hackney for a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, with a villagy feeling.
After having meals or drinks at St. Katharine Dock, instead of taking the DLR from Tower Gateway, you can walk along the river back to Limehouse.
Take DLR and stops at Mudchute for Mudchute Park and Farm. A great activity for children. The park keeps llama and a variety of friendly and domestic anminals.
Greenwich Park is only 20 minutes away on DLR, stopping at Cutty Sark. Apart from the park, the Greenwich Market and the Old Royal Naval College, don’t forget to visit Queen’s House, an under appreciated site with beautiful interior design.
Angel Station is only 30 minutes away by tube. Before heading to the Upper Street for a great variety of food and drinks options, maybe you want to visit the flea market on Camden Passage.
Take the DLR and change to Overground at Shadwell. You can either get off at Shoreditch High Street for Shoreditch or Brick Lane market, a true experience of the hippy side of East London. Or get off at Hoxton to visit Geffrye Museum of the House or Columbia Road Flower Market. Kingsland Road off Hoxton is the capital of Vietnamese food in London.
Cafes:
- Husk Coffee is next to Tesco on Commercial Road. It is a local creative space with hearty coffee, cakes and simple meals. Ideal for your morning coffee and croissant! Opens from 9am every weekday.
- Italian Cafe Brera is 10 minutes walk along the Thames river. It has coffee, irresistible Italian dessert and light meals.
Restaurant:
- My favorite is a local Italian restaurant La Figa. It offers reasonably priced and authentic Italian food, with generous portion too. My favorite is the mixed seafood linguine.
- The Narrow is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and bar. It has good river view and is great for a drink next to the fire place.
- Also on Narrow Street, you can find local pub The Grapes. I really like their Sunday roast. It is owned by the actor Sir Ian McKellen and he still comes to host the quiz night in the summer.
There are more restaurant choices in Westferry Circus, which is 10 minutes by walk. My favorite there is an authentic Chinese restaurant Royal China. Weekend dim sum is very popular.
If you fancy a pub crawl on the Thames river. I recommend Prospect of Whitby and the Captain Kidd. You will discover interesting history of East London.
