Very Good 8.0
Nice hotel close to Orchard Rd. shopping
The facilities at the hotel offered a comfortable base and I organized a tour most days. I found extra services such as laundry and room service very expensive, but it was Singapore. I ate mostly inhouse, but it was often disappointing, because the kitchen always put their own "spin" on their dishes, e.g. kaya toast. However, after the last of my tours (the second that day) I returned hungry, exhausted and with swollen ankles. I asked room service to fix me a fruit smoothie (delicious) and ice (for the ankles) and to heat my hot pack. They did so without much delay and the young lady who served me was most considerate and one of my favourites. I had occasion to question the concierge about an item on my checkout account. It was for a meal in one of the hotel's restaurants, advertised (I think in a leaflet or a book in the room outlining what food options were on offer) as being "late lunch" at a discount, available weekdays. I signed the account at the end of my meal, believing it was at that price, without my glasses. The manager of the restaurant came to see me as I waited for my pickup to the airport. He told me that the offer was obsolete and, because I wasn't able to point to where I'd seen it, the matter ended there. It was an expensive meal which I wouldn't have chosen had I known that. I had 3 lots of laundry done (no pressing) at a cost of nearly $300, which I queried to no avail. All the staff that serviced my room were pleasant and diligent.

Exceptional 10.0
Excellent staff, location and standard.
The hotel staff was very friendly, helpful and customer focussed. They e mailed us a few days before arrival and asked if we were celebrating any special occasion n asked for flight times. I told them we were celebrating our kids birthday & land midday. The hotel staff went the extra mile to make the day special for the kids... they decorated the room with Birthday banner n balloons. Their chef made an extremely tasty chocolate cake. They also were very considerate and without us even asking they prepared the room before our arrival. Their hotel policy clearly states that check in is after 3pm but as they knew our flight time they were very kind to let us check in at 1pm with the room decorated so beautifully n cake, cookies n chocolates for kids already in the room. My little one fell ill during the trip... once again, the hotel staff were extremely good and quickly gave us all options as to cost for calling in house doctor vs going to a nearby private hospital which thankfully was only 5 minutes drive. they quickly got is water bottles at the reception, thermometer to check my son's temperature. They were very considerate and asked how he was on our return n to let them know if they can be of any help at all. The chef knew what my 1 year old's milk schedule was and always made sure even when we wouldn't ask he would send his warm milk up at 12:30 am I class this as top service. We were made feel really welcome and had an extremely comfortable & enjoyable stay.

Exceptional 10.0
7 night stay Executive Suite Room, loved the room! Room included a balcony outside bedroom and living room. We had lunch in the Basilico restaurant. We chose the lunch buffet and loved the hot counter which included pasta, cut meats, soups, brick oven pizza. Center was fresh fruits, salads, seafood, juices, cheeses, and specialty meats. Opposite counter of desserts, fresh breads, and pastries. All high quality food and delicious. We met Andy, Manager of Basilico and most impressed with this restaurant. Lalaing was our friendly host to seat us, and serviced by our friendliest waitress, Malini. Others that offered wonderful service was Luisa who always greeted us with her smile and humor. Sunday Brunch is the best...do not miss it. Check out the cheese bar. The breakfast buffet was extravagant, fresh coffee drinks, fresh squeeze juices, pancakes, waffles, french toast , omelets, soup noodles, congee, meats, sausages. we also had access to the Executive Lounge on the 11th floor which is a more secluded lounge with complimentary breakfast, snacks, beverages, and concierge service. Provided with newspapers and comfortable sofa and lounge chairs. Christy and Phyllis was our Executive Lounge that assisted us in making dinner and tour reservation we were greeted by Assistant Manager, Brandon Chu. So surprised he was from Maui (we are from Oahu. Brandon, Manager of the world famous Manhattan bar shared the wonderful cheesecake.Highly recommend this hotel thank you GM P. Draminsky

Good 6.0
Good, but a little disappointing
A very deja view visit for me as I used to stay here a lot when the hotel opened (in the first half of the 80s, I guess), and I used to use it for many business meetings/conferences in the 90s. The property has been well maintained, but there is no getting away from its age...there is nothing that can be done about the atrium lobby that was all the rage when it was built (and that can create some pretty horrendous noise problems, as I experienced from a rowdy group about 1am one night), or the small bathroom that means there is no separate shower (god, how I hate showering in a bath tub). But they could improve the water pressure which seemed rather insipid to me. Having said that, the room was very comfortable - bed, pillows, desk, lighting controls, towels, amenities - all excellent, and - I love this - more electric sockets than you could ever need. The staff at reception, on the phone, and room service were excellent, but I was a little bemused by the effectiveness of the doormen. In a 5* hotel you expect over-the-top attention, but this was far from the case. Over three days, I was never asked if I needed a taxi, or other help, I carried heavy shopping bags in without any offer of help, and the doors were opened for me maybe 20% of the time. So, all in all, I'm not sure I would return on future Singapore trips. There's a lot of competition!

Fair 4.0
Seriously below expectation.
Basically it is a hotel designed for 5-star standard but operated by 3-star management. Rooms are cozy and noise control is well done. When we are just got into the hotel room, the bell boy who take our luggage to my room insisted to introduce the room to us even if we have told him that we are in a hurry. Also, he 'helped' us to put the dirty suitcase onto the rack for clothes without our consent(it's raining outside and leaves on it). I don't know if he is doing these for tips. It really upsetting my wife and we finally failed to reach merlion before the sun is down. For the bathroom, when I get in, black dots and hair found in the bath tub and the makeup mirror is loose like to be broken. I went to front desk to request for a fix. It is unacceptable for a 5-star hotel to offer such room to its customer. The worse comes that the makeup mirror is finally not fixed throughout my 4 days of stay. Though the bath tub was cleaned immediately, the hotel seems having no motivation to replace the makeup mirror. Moreover, hot water is not sufficient to support the peak period. In morning, the water is hot. At midnight, it is warm. At 8pm, it is just not cool. Actually, it is the signs that the facility getting old. Furthermore, I requested for a 1-hour late check out. The lady at front desk had processed in the record, but I am not able the access the lift when it is 12:05. The staff seem forgot the key have to be extended.
