Alas, the Grand Copthorne has long lost its grandeur. The initial approach was deceptive; the entrance, check-in desk and staff leads you to believe "not bad," but once I got the key and opened the door to the room, it all changed. First, a moldy smell hits you, then you notice that a half-hearted attempt at refurbishing the room has failed. I returned to the front desk to ask for a different room because I could not tolerate the moldy smell. They were apologetic and upgraded us. That room was a step above the other because it didn't smell. However, the tile around the tub was badly stained. This hotel probably was indeed grand in its day, but now, it desperately needs to be gutted and redone.

For being a 5 Star hotel ... I give it 2 stars! No sauna no, steam room, no valet laundry service, no ability to convert Credit Card to cash at desk. Rooms are aging and showing it. Not even close to a real 5 star hotel. !

Bedroom was old. Sink wasn’t draining and toilet bowl had problems with flushing. I had to call housekeeping to fix the issues. In addition, the in-room telephone had problems too, it wouldn’t connect sometimes unless the phone cable was placed in certain positions. Mattress was too short. Probably made for children as our feet were out at the end of the bed when sleeping and we are not very tall. Housekeeping only did basic cleaning and did not change our bedsheets despite stains. It was a 3 night stay and I wished housekeeping would have done a better job.
