Cheung Chau (Long Island) is about 10 km southwest of Hong Kong Island. The island used to be a fishing community – some carry on in this traditional occupation, while others run hostels, seafood restaurants, and shops that cater to visitors from Hong Kong Island. You can get to this idyllic island by ferry, which regularly departs from Central Pier #5.

It’s a popular place for people who want to escape the pressures of Hong Kong life, especially on weekends and holidays. Besides its natural beauty of pristine beaches and natural caves, Cheung Chau has a rich culture, with a vibrant seafront, historical temples, and the annual Bun Festival, which takes place over the course of a week during the 4th lunar month.
