Nice property, but service is not the best
The property is rather large, so plan on walking a long way to eat or go to shows. It's a very pretty walk through palm tree, iguanas, water features, etc., just bring comfy shoes. The entertainment staff were a lot of fun and pools are large with plenty of space to swim. The beach is nice and snorkeling is decent right at the property. (There is a "protected area" just off the property in Akumal {not related to Secrets} where you can snorkel to see the turtles, but because it's "protected" you have to pay a guide to swim out with you. I found this out while I was snorkeling on my own, and was run out by a woman on a kayak. Obvioulsy they just want your money.) Secrets doesn't take reservations for dinner, so you need to be flexible with your dinner choices. We tried to go to the French restaurant and were told it would be over an hour wait (at 9:30 and they are suppsed to be open until 11:00) and we should go somewhere else. Where they fall short is between what they promise on their website and what they tell you when you arrive and what actually happens. The promises start at the top of the company, but they do not trickle down to the people who are the ones to deliver. We paid the extra to be in the preferred club section which is supposed to have upgrades including mini bar. Our room was stocked with all the same bar items as our friends that weren't in preferred club. The only difference was we got one pack of M&M's and one small can of pringles. ;)

The property is beautiful. The staff were great. The food was just ok and I got food poisoning on our first night there due to something I ate. I didn't think the preferred package was worthwhile considering the extra costs. The benefits were marginal and while they gave us numerous $100 or $50 coupons for the resort, they all had strings and the pricing on spa or other services was so obscene as to make the coupons unusable. And they do the hard sell on buying the lifetime vacation packages which you agree to in order to get the free gift but then they take half of your day. The free 2 night stay at one of their properties may be nice but it probably wasn't worth losing half of a day of vacation to their sales pitch which supposedly was only going to take an hour.

We had a very enjoyable family vacation. I’ve stayed at a few all inclusive resorts and Secrets is hands down the best. Pros: Staff is amazing. Plenty of food choices. 24 Coffee Shop / Snack Bar 24 Hour Room Service Beautiful Grounds Cons: Mixed drinks are a bit too sweet. Not really a problem tho. Just ask for more liquor. Pools and swim up bar close too early. Would definitely visit again. Worth the extra money.
