The overall appearance and experience within the hotel was excellent. The staff were good and helpful even if the barman made for awkward company. Sadly the spa facilities were a bit hit and miss with the sauna not really being up to temperature and the steam room being intermittent with its operation. This would’ve been okay if guests had unlimited spa hours and we could’ve worked around. But with only two 2 hour slots in the day within which to use the spa and for those two hour slots to be intermittent because of the immunity time it was slightly disappointing but a good stay nonetheless.

We stayed at The Gainsborough as a family in late July, and the hotel was the perfect base for exploring Bath. The location is central, within easy walking distance of the Roman Baths, Thermae Bath Spa, the Royal Crescent and The Circus. The rooms were large, beautiful and well equipped, with plenty of space for a family. The service was outstanding throughout our stay, and breakfast was superb – Swiss-style service at its very best. The highlight was the Spa Village. The hotel has Bath's natural thermal water piped directly into the spa, and we used it twice. It was calm and beautiful, and in our view better than Thermae, which is much busier. Complimentary access for hotel guests in the morning and evening is a real bonus. Worth knowing for families: the spa has a strict 16+ age limit at all times, so children can't join. We simply took turns using the morning and evening sessions. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience Bath in style. Five stars.

The most noteworthy is the location! It's very central to all the sights and quite buzzing area. We had a wonderful stay and the breakfast was just amazing. The staff is very polite and helpful. Would love to recommend to everyone looking for comfortable clean rooms and central location.
