What a cute little place! I appreciate how well it was decorated. It fit very well in the neighborhood. The room was incredibly clean and I was pleasantly surprised by the efficient small room features like the fridge drawer, garment and hanger cabinet and gorgeous little patio. The hair dryer was the best hair dryer I've used in a hotel in my entire adult life. That alone gets you five stars. The shower and bath were magnificent and definitely something I'll remember when I remodel my bathroom. The lighting, showerhead, towels, all amazing! It's also perfectly situated in the neighborhood for a show at the theater. I highly recommend stopping by the historic Twin Peaks gay bar down the street. It's a neighborhood bar, cash only, but the bartenders and customers are the sweetest people on earth.

The main reason to stay at Hotel Castro is the location. You’re literally a block or two from all the bars and right in the middle of the Castro, which is incredibly convenient. The hotel itself is nice and the rooms are well decorated, although they are on the smaller side. It’s a self-check-in hotel, so all communication is done online, which was fine for us since we only stayed one night and didn’t need anything during our stay. One thing to note is the noise. I’ve stayed here before on a lower floor and this time on the fourth floor, and both times you could hear a lot of what was happening within the building, particularly the pressure and mechanical sounds of the elevator going up and down. It’s a very small building that was converted into a hotel, and you can definitely tell it wasn’t originally designed to function as a traditional hotel.

As a solo woman traveling, I appreciated the safety of three areas needing codes: front door, elevator, room. My room had twin beds for one or two guests. Clean, huge bathroom, good shower, many amenities. First time I had a personal Nespresso in the room with unlimited pods. And a tea kettle with tea selection as well as two bottles for filtered water available in the lobby. Comfortable bed, balcony, and staff that quickly responded to any need. The street billows with bars, restaurants, and a wonderful French bakery. I enjoyed my stay.

The location is absolutely perfect for visiting The Castro District. The hotel is beautiful and comfortable. I just had to give less stars because the walls and floors/ceiling are so thin you can hear absolutely everything from your neighbors, especially footsteps. We could not sleep. Thankfully the remote staff was very responsive and was able to remedy the noisy party.

Loved this place! Perfect location, size and layout plus so many modern additions like Google TVs and hub. So much attention to detail overall. Will definitely stay here again when Im lucky enough to get back to SF! There's only one very small critique and that's the shower water pressure could be a little stronger but it was sufficient as is.
