Things to see in Lantau Island

One of the biggest (quite literally) attractions of Hong Kong is Big Buddha. It is the largest outdoor statue of Buddha in the world, standing 112 feet tall, and is a truly breathtaking sight to behold. Adjacent to this is the Po Lin Monastery. Comprised of many beautiful buildings and surrounded by beauty, it’s highly recommended in Lantau Island reviews. Both of these sights lie on the Ngong Ping plateau, and this is where you will also find Ngong Ping Village. This open-air shopping area is packed full of great stores and restaurants, and is the perfect place to pick up some gifts or souvenirs. Be sure you take the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to reach this area, so you can enjoy the spectacular panoramas along the way. For more amazing views you can take a hike along the Lantau Trail. It’s challenging but well worth the effort, especially to reach Lantau Peak, which is famous for its incredible sunrise vista.

Good for families

Lantau Island is a fantastic vacation destination for families. You can enjoy the natural beauty of the island with a walk as a family, in areas such as the Lantau Country Park. There is plenty of opportunity to shop and enjoy some great cuisine at Discovery Bay. As a mainly residential area it is much quieter than Downtown Hong Kong, but there are great restaurants here, and the Discovery Bay Plaza mall. Of course, the biggest draw for families is Hong Kong Disneyland. It’s also where you can find some of the best family-friendly hotels in Lantau Island, such as the 5-star Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
