I almost don't want to leave a review so as not to further expose this adorable little gem. We didn't know what to expect, but were headed to Arequipa for a 9 day business trip and needed something affordable that we can call home base that was close to everything as well as a convenient taxi/uber pickup spot to get us to various parts of town for work, and this fit every single bill! Ridiculously friendly and warm staff, great delicious fresh breakfast (sometimes even made to order), a lovely rooftop terrace and even a relaxing outdoor area with seating on the 2nd floor as well, all centered around an adorable quaint courtyard that serves as a meeting place, comfortable work place, or just a spot to kick back and read a book. It's right near the middle of the San Lazaro district, the oldest district in Arequipa, made up of narrow white cobblestone streets and volcanic rock buildings, all within minutes walking distance to several delicious eateries, breweries and coffee shops. The facilities are surprisingly quiet, very secure, and it made for our home away from home in all the best ways, and none of the worst lol, all the perfect price. Loved it and will certainly look for availability next time we're in town. Thanks so much to the wonderful staff for accommodating all our needs.

Le mobilier extérieur offrait différents niveaux d'ensoleillement et de confort. Fauteuils, divans, chaises longues etc. La terrasse pour le déjeuner (petit déjeuner pour les français) était magnifique avec vue sur les monts enneigés. L'établissement a été rénové mais à quelques endroits les murs et les plafonds fendillent ou la peinture boursoufle. Ils devraient pouvoir corriger cela par un entretien continu.

Beautiful and friendly hotel

We spent a couple of days there and everything was perfect. We arrived early in the morning after spending the night on a bus and they offered hot drinks straight away. They prepared our room as soon as they could and we were allowed to check in earlier than expected so we could rest. Really nice touch on their side! The place is beautifully decorated with paintings and art and it feels like a high end hotel. Beds are very comfy, bathroom clean and shower powerful. Breakfast is good (they even go to the baker to get the delicious bread first thing in the morning before they sell them out). The location is good, in a quiet street, about 10 minutes walk from the main attractions. Great stay and highly recommended.

Great hotel close to the attractions

We had a lovely stay at El Portal de San Lazaro. It’s on a quiet street off the main road, and walkable to the Plaza and the attraction. Special mention to Israel the hotel manager, who gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and was a great host. Only issue we faced was that the hotel doesn’t have central heating, and nights were cold. They did give us extra blankets, though!

Beautiful hotel with open architecture and multiple areas to sit and hang out outside with views of the three volcanoes. Really nice hotel, good location (walking distance to the plaza de Armas). You definitely get good value for the price. 24-hours reception and we could leave our luggage in the hotel while trekking in the Colca Canyon, which we really appreciated. The manager is very helpful as well if you'd like to get tips on trekking tours.
