It’s a good location to explore around DTLA. It has a cool vibe, I loved the fact that it is an old building around 100 years old. Pool and bar at roof top was fun, food and drinks ok. However bar at lobby was not working neither restaurant. The room carpet had stains and it was peel off you can see dust and dirt. The frame of the windows had dust. The bed is not so comfortable you can tell it is not a new mattress. Morning light comes thru window (no blackout curtain). Our stay was Ok, but I don’t think I would stay there again.

Very clean shared dorm room. The other guests were also very clean too. In the past staying in a shared room in LA had been a very uncomfortable experience but this was a good balance between affordability downtown and still maintaining a safe environment.

Great hotel in emerging urban neighborhood. Great hotel for families, couples, singles. Rooms are HUGE with comfortable seating areas and big TVs. Dated, but stylish and clean. Some street noise (but hey, it's DTLA). Near Grammy Museum, historic sites, amazing architecture. Homeless issues in the neighborhood, but, again, big city. Lots of filming in the area for commercials, movies, TV. Hotel has a coffee vendor, bar in lobby and on roof by pool, and a restaurant. Good patisserie next door. Many cool bars within walking distance. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Due to area issues, skip the self park and let them park you valet. We travel frequently and would stay there again.

Loved it! Stayed for a few days for a conference in DTLA so the location was perfect. The only thing I missed was a curtain for the bunkbeds - as to not be disturbed when roommates turn on the light and move about the room. The gym was nice and the kitchen area in the basement too. Pool in the roof was really cool. Overall, the facilities feel fresh and just top notch.

The Freehand is a good Hotel. The staff stands out. Friendly, courteous and knowledgeable about the area. The surrounding area nightlife is a bit robust but playful. The rooftop pool and restaurant was a welcomed highlight of me and my teenage Son. Overall The Freehand charming motif made for a very pleasant experience.
