We were really looking forward to staying at the iconic Midland Hotel in Morecambe. It was easy to find with plenty of free parking. It looked wonderful in a beautiful situation right by the sea.
Our check in experience wasn't great - the girl who did it was aloof, officious and unfriendly; she didn't smile once. However, this was the only downside to our stay.
The interior of the hotel is beautiful. Our room was amazing, large and bright - it had 3 windows, all with great views. The big bed was very comfortable. We liked the shower room with its fluffy white towels.
We dined at the hotel. Our waiter was lovely, very friendly, helpful and polite. We both enjoyed our meals. However, during the heatwave, it was too hot to sit in the usual dining area in the sun room overlooking the sea, so most people were in the small dining area inside. We thought some fans would have been a good idea to cool it down.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice for the continental breakfast and also for the English breakfast, very well cooked and presented. Also, the dining room had cooled down by morning, so we enjoyed overlooking the sea whilst eating. The head waiter was excellent, very welcoming and informative. All the waiters were great too.
If not for the off-putting poor reception, we would probably have given 5 stars all round.
