We stayed here just after Christmas and it feel the hotel was running on a reduced staffing who struggled to maintain the level of service required, e.g. Room not serviced as only one chambermaid on duty, gravy served with the steak instead of peppercorn sauce, and then told it was peppercorn......it had never seen a peppercorn!
We stayed in room 2 which had not been refurbished and was defiantly not up to 4 Star aspiration. Dirty carpet, old non-functioning whirlpool bath, swags and tails curtains falling off the rail, chipped and bashed furniture.
On the website you will see the new refurbished rooms which look great (and probably one that the reviewer from the Telegraph stayed!), but not all rooms are like that. But the pricing does not reflect that and we were charged full rate for a sub-standard room.
The building is lovely and has great Arts & Crafts features, and the location is wonderful, but the Christmas staffing and room quality let it down.
