No security processes in place
We experienced an unauthorized entry into our room @ 2AM on NY eve - I.e. someone used a key to enter the room and left quickly as I got up and shouted. I was traveling with my wife and young son, who were both sleeping at the time - one can imagine how we felt knowing that this could have happened - but unfortunately it gets worse! I reported the situation immediately to the front of house (in person) and no action was taken for over 24 (we reported the issue 3 times to different people - and none of them had Any knowledge of the incident or reported it (it’s as if it wasn’ important). Clearly no security processes in place (and lack of adequate training to the front of house staff) at this hotel, which is shocking for a Marriot - especially in the “age of terrorism”. Only after asking to see the Manager on duty and then the General Manager upon our check out were we informed that a hotel key had been stolen from the reception desk by an unknown perpetrator, that other guests had been affected, and that the police is involved. Sadly, we weren’t given any formal letter of apology and only when we complained (spent over an hour doing so) was I offered some sort of compensation. It felt as if they were making it up as they went along. Acceptable for a b&b, not for a 4* Marriot Hotel. The general manager has since then followed up personally over email, but the whole security reporting process (or lack thereof) was a really scary and unbelievable experience.

Location
The hotel location is out of the city centre, however the location is a nice quiet area with a few cafe bars near by. The location of the hotel is also close (15 min walk) to the Schonbrunner Palace which is a must see in Vienna. The hotel is very close to the Ubahn (U4) subway, which is very easy to use to get out and about and into the city centre. If you like your hotel to be in a quiet area and don’t mind travelling to see the sites then this is the hotel for you. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was decorated to an excellent standard and the fitness facilities were good; including the sauna which we used after a day of sightseeing. The only downside was the prices for food and drink, which I guess is expected at the level of standards at this hotel. We did not eat or drink at the hotel. To get to the hotel from the airport is very easy, we got a taxi from the airport for a fixed price of 36 euros, however going back we used the subway and the airport express (CAT) which was very easy to use and slightly cheaper (15 euros each).

Short Break.
My wife and myself stayed here to see the sights and in particular the summer concert at the Schonbrun palace gardens, the hotel was very clean and modern and the staff where helpful speaking good English, we found they where a little mean with some of the essentials in the room and got the distinct impression they wanted to charge for anything they could, if you wish to eat I'd go out and look around the town where you can find quite a variety of different countries foods, by the way if you happen to be a Vegan you will be well catered for as it seems to be taking Vienna by storm with many shops restaurants and on certain days market stalls selling their homemade wares, also I should mention that the hotel is within 100m of the tube line,to sum up up a great place to visit on a short break with everywhere easily accessible once you have worked out the underground system, incidentally you can buy one two or three day travel cards which cover all travel.

Very nice hotel with superb breakfast
It is a nice hotel in decent condition with superb breakfast buffet. The room was clean and comfortable with a very nice king size bed, a huge TV and all the amenities one would expect from a hotel at this price range / star rating. The immediate area is a bit less interesting but very close to Shoenbrunn and short subway or bike ride to city center. The staff/service was mostly adequate although the Asian chef cooking eggs, omelettes, etc. could've been nicer / more helpful. Still - the food quality and variety made up for any shortcomings in staff's attitude. Overall - can definitely recommend this place and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Exceptional 10.0
I first stayed at the Renaissance Hotel nearly 20 years ago and it is my "go to" hotel whenever I am in Vienna. The hotel is located conveniently near the UBahn, has good facilities and is quite reasonably priced. The staff has always been very efficient and helpful. The morning breakfast is plentiful and very nice. My only "negative" comment regarding the hotel is prices of drinks at the lobby bar. I fully expect that hotel bar prices are higher than your neighborhood bar but I found the prices during my last trip to be excessive and thus I stopped going there and instead had to leave the hotel.
