1st time at a CitizenM. I liked the hotel overall, but we had a few issues. First, our TV kept coming on by itself through the night. I used the remote and the tablet to turn it off to no avail. Eventually I had to get up and unplug it to remedy the problem. (The next two are related and I recognize are beyond the hotel's control). There is construction going on at buildings on 3 sides of the hotel. There is probably no good room to avoid the noise which starts promptly at 730 am. Yeah, 730. We were there on a relaxing trip, poops! So thankfully we were up and getting through the shower when the 3rd issue happened. The hotel P.A. system and alarm went off. Not the fire alarm, nothing in our room was flashing. It's a common area system with a recorded message letting you know that an emergency has been reported and it's being investigated but you may have to evacuate. Since we were up and getting it together we just decided to leave anyway. So much for a relaxing start to the day. When we got to the lobby the staff member was telling people it wasn't a real emergency. Apparently the construction crew accidentally triggered the alarm messing around with the wiring in a lower level of the building. Thanks for that union workers! All that being said, in a year or two when the nearby construction is done, I'd probably give it another try as I really dug the room. Im just really happy I found a couple good coupons to apply to my room rate when I made my reservation!

What a nightmare!
What a nightmare. We walked into the front of the hotel to find no reception area. We had to CALL the hotel (no sign but for INSIDE the elevator) to go to the second floor to check in. Check in is self-serve. No one asks you if you need anything, just an “ambassador” to ask if you need help helping yourself. Also, NO PARKING. I wasn’t expecting on-site parking, but no valet to take my car to an adjacent lot so I didn’t have to schlep my luggage literally half a mile from the closest open lot. While the room was clean, the pillows had no stuffing in them. Our room was warm so we attempted to adjust the temperature on the iPad we were given (there are no light switches, remotes or thermostats). We came back to the same stuffy room after 8 hours. Ironically, the view from our room was the HVAC system for the new Boston Garden! I had to leap over my husband to use the restroom then reach round in the dark to find the iPad. We tried to get a drink at the hotel bar. We watched 2 other (dissatisfied) couples get served. For 25 minutes, no one approached us. We will never stay with this company again.

Poor 2.0
Awful hotel with tiny dorm-like rooms
This is by no means a four and a half star hotel. The concept of being hip and minimalist is cute at best. The room was so small that it reminded me of my dorm room in college. The bed had no room around it and essentially took up a third of the room. The bathroom sliding glass door only opened inward and would hit the toilet before being opened halfway since the bathroom was so small, the toilet was behind the door. The opening was small enough that we had to angle ourselves sideways to get through the opening to get to the shower or toilet. The staff was very nice but for someone that only stays at four and five star hotels on Hotels.com and is a good member, this was absolutely awful. $275/night was an absolute ripoff, especially considering the night before I was staying at the beautiful Loew’s hotel in Chicago for the $50 more per night. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere

Good 6.0
Great staff! Very friendly and helpful people! The hotel itself a little lacking. Currently, the front of the building is under construction and it isn't well signed for gaining entry. When you do find the door it opens into a room with an elevator. You must take it to the 4th floor to find the lobby. Again, not well marked not intuative. The hotel itself is niche. It was almost like a hipster and IKEA had a baby. Very small but efficient room which incorporated an iPad into the controls for the environment and lighting, etc. If you like that kind of thing, then you'll love it. On our particular stay the building's fire alarm system was tested at 6:30 a.m. There were multiple loud announcements made about the test from 6:30 on through about 7:30 a.m. Never heard a fire alarm. Otherwise everything else was fine. The staff really is the best part of the hotel. They really seemed to like being there and liked helping people.

Exceptional 10.0
This is a brand new hotel. It has a funky hipster-y decor. It has the feel of a glorified hostel for adults, with private rooms. The room is small- controlled by an iPad. There is not a lot of privacy for the bathroom which is sort of a pod in the middle of the room with frosted glass. It’s hard to describe. The king size bed is comfy but crammed up against the window so you can’t enter it from both sides. A lot of high tech digitally controlled features are controlled by the iPad like curtains, dimming / colored lights, tv, music streaming etc. sort of a space age / jetsons feel to the whole space. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The lobby area is fun/funky. Food mediocre. The area is north station- it is what it is. A little hectic and nasty but very centrally located.
