Very old and charming hotel. Clean and comfortable. However we were on the 4th floor and had to carry our bags up 4 flights of stairs. Would have been nice to know ahead of time. No TV, hairdryer in the room.

History and Graceful hospitality under one roof.
Great hospitality. They were welcoming, accommodated our needs and altogether very nice. It was a well situated hotel close to many of the area attractions within a 20 min walk. You just have to appreciate the historical nature of the hotel.

Unique Spot in DC
The Tabard is a unique hotel with an excellent restaurant. It is old with interesting art scattered just about everywhere. We loved the penthouse, but there is no elevator, so travel light. But the trip up (and down) the narrow stairs was more than worth it. We could easily live in the room at the top, ahhh if we could only afford full time DC living. Stay here while you can.

Very rundown. Drafty windows. Horrible paint. Furniture falling apart.

The Inn was vey eclectic and our room was quaint. The food was fantastic as well as the service. We parked across the street and our car was broken into. The Hotel was very helpful in providing video footage. I found the only negative was the Political undertones. Businesses should stay neutral.

Fascinating history and art. We loved our stay. The only thing we were not happy with was the hospitality of our server at breakfast who was largely inattentive and absent, when present he seemed to be irritated by our request for more coffee and cream.

If you like your amenities, this is not the place
The hotel's architecture is beautiful however there are no real amenities. We had to go to the front desk for a hair dryer. There is no elevator and our room was up 4 flights of stairs. There was no room service though they might have been due to would have been nice to have a coffee maker in our room instead of going down to the bar to purchase coffee in the morning. The bathroom had a floor with a toilet and a drain for the overhead shower to drain into. There was no barrier between the toilet and the shower such as a bathtub, a shower door or curtain. The floor was wet after our showers. The bed is a memory foam but was rediculously firm to the point that it hurt when you laid down on it first the first time. Both my husband and I were in pain this next morning. The food in the restaurant was not worth the price. I would have eaten somewhere else had I known. I am from the area and have always wanted to stay here. This visit was for our anniversary and I am sorry I wasted it there.

The hotel was really amazing so was staff, My problem is I got in at Christmas after driving 6 hours. I was not informed kitchen was closed. Then getting ready to go to dinner the next night, we get a note they are having a event and we can not dine in. TWO nights in a row, I was there to just hang out with my daughter in the service and we had to order out. Which was ok but the food was one of the reason I chose this place, so that was very disappointing. I did say something they assured me manager would reach out to me and no one has. But again staff the place was so nice, but communication to visitors from manger very poor.

If you're into cookie cutter Hiltons and Sheratons, this might not be the place for you. However, if you're after something memorable, this place is definitely unique. It's a bit like an eccentric art lover's city mansion with every inch of wall space filled with art of all genres and slightly battered antique furniture in abundance. The room was done out in "batty old maiden aunt is preparing for a seance" style, with a bathroom so old it could be a museum exhibit. However everything was very comfortable and in working order, the staff were lovely, and the restaurant was really high quality. This will definitely be my first choice for future DC visits. I was fine without a tv in the room (the wifi is excellent), but anyone with limited mobility might find the absence of an elevator a challenge.

Very friendly staff!!!
We chose the Tabard Inn to stay in during our daughter’s wedding. We had three rooms, two for family and one for the bride and groom after the wedding. The staff was so helpful both before the wedding and afterwords, it was amazing. Next time we are in DC, we are definitely staying at the Tabard Inn.
