Really dirty room, Awful taxi, big disappointment
After a long check-in we arrived in a room really dusty, with a carpet totally dirty and even stuff from previous customer. The second day I specifically ask for someone to come clean the room, and they came for only change the sheets and towels but gave us back only 3 instead of 4. And the carpet was even more dirty. Big disappointment and even more when a women knock the door and open straight away before we said anything for check the room we told her no it wasn't clean but she left anyway. We asked for help for go to the airport the evening of our departure a lady from the reception helped us a lot (it's what we thought) and we booked a taxi for 7 am. The next morning a shuttle arrive, nobody told us it was one, so much cheaper than a taxi first disappointment, our taxi was late and pretty fast/dangerous in the road to the airport and arrived there he told us that he didn't have a card machine (when asked the day before receptionist confirmed we could), he didn't want us to go take cash and let him go because he had an other drive but he told us that he will be back in 20 min for take the payment in cash, he were already pretty upset and more when he called asking if we can wait 40 min for him to pick up the card machine, we said no because we took out cash and when we arrived 30min after he started to continue to arguing about him forgetting the card machine, we gave him the money and explain him that we were at the airport so we had a plane to take. Worst experience!!

The Alfred Hotel - Not Recommended
The day I checked in, I took at nap. Someone knocked at my door and before I could answer a man entered my room. After I heard the door open I called out hello. He replied with I'm sorry and left. I called the front desk upset and asked the manager to call me back and never received a phone call. Before going out that night, I told the front desk that its unacceptable that someone entered my room, and that I want no one to enter my room for my entire stay. That night when I returned the manger knocked at my door apologizing for her co-worker entering my room and offered me a free breakfast. This didn't makeup for the fact that I didn't feel comfortable the entire stay there. I requested a wake up call and they called me 40 minutes after my requested time. They said someone put the request in the wrong book. This hotel is a 15 minute ride on the Tram #2 which can be very inconvenient if you want to go back to the hotel and change and go right back out. Breakfast is served in the basement which is very unappealing. There is major construction going on right in front of the hotel which was also very unappealing.

Poor 2.0
We were very disappointed with the way the front desk managed our reservation! We arrived at the hotel early morning and were told our room is not ready. Sure, we understand and we were ready to just leave our bags and come back later. I showed the receptionist my Expedia booking confirmation but she didn't even want to look at it and told me to come back later. We were to leave our bags at the side without any luggage tags. Before we left, I did asked for assurance that our room will be ready and we will be able to check in when we get back as we will be late. So we left to do our sightseeing and when we returned, we were shocked and dismayed that we do not have a room. They claimed that Bookings.com made a mistake and over-book the hotel. What has my reservation with Expedia do with Bookings.com!!! They tried to contact me but I had turned off my data roaming. That does not give them reason to give away the room that I have booked. After much waiting (we were so tired from our outings) and close to mid-nite, we were transferred to their sister hotel - Iron Horse and then transfer back to The Alfred the next day for our second and final nite stay. The reason I chose Alfred was becos they have lift whereas Iron Horse do not have lift. The man at front desk did not even help with bags up the stairs to the room on the top floor. He said he had shoulder pain and cannot help. What a disappointment on our first day of arrival in Amsterdam!

Exceptional 10.0
There seems to be very mixed reviews for this hotel, some of which I can understand and some of which i did not experience during my stay. To get to major positives out of the way, the price was affordable for a city where accommodation can be expensive, and the location for the price you pay is great. While you are not in the immediate downtown area, you have a bus stop that goes to and from the airport and a tram stop that goes all the way through downtown to the central station, right outside. You are a short walk to the museum quarter as well. The staff was friendly but I cant comment on any more than that as i did not need to enquire with them about any questions or suggestions. As for the room, i personally had a very small room on the top floor which suited me ok because i was traveling alone. That being said, even for one person it was a bit tight and I pack lightly. As other reviewers have said, it can get a bit daekcin this type of room as therecia only one small window high up and a couple of lights at night. Again for me this wasnt much of a problem because I dont often spend my vacations inside a hotel room. The bathroom was modern, but I had a problem with the sink being incredibly small and positioned under the mirror on one side and soap dispenser on the other and the faucet itself on the third, making it very messy and difficult to brush teeth or wash in. The bed was comfortable enough, everything was clean, and when I did not want maid service they left me a

Cons outweigh the pros
From the outside the hotel looks great and the staff at the check in desk were enthusiastic, welcoming and professional. However, most of our experience from this point onward failed to match the initial impression. The room was very small although for the price this is to be expected so not really a negative point but one you should consider. There is a nespresso coffee machine which is a nice touch but non-nespresso capsules and frustratingly no kettle for you complete the making of your drink! One you have the espresso shot from the machine there’s no way of topping it up with hot water. The same is true for tea as this requires a kettle and to top it all off there was no milk - all very disappointing. The bathroom/wetroom is a bit of a failure. The size of the shower head combined with the design of the shower means that absolutely everything in the bathroom will inevitably get soaked. It’s a terrible design for such a small area. Our toilet seat had also broken away from the toilet which meant for uncomfortable sitting. Other cons to point out include: - lack of main light in bedroom which meant it always felt a little dark in the evenings and meant getting ready with mirrors was tricky. - we didn’t have a ‘do not disturb/please make up my room’ sign for the door - there’s a purpose built mini fridge unit with no mini fridge - very loud building work directly outside of our room from 7am onwards - general look and feel of the room was very tired
