Fine Old Hotel in a Great Location
Love the ambiance of this fine old hotel, including the beautifully decorated lobby with sparkling chandeliers everywhere! Service was exemplary. Halls and staircases are narrow and difficult to navigate and the tiny elevators are slow; but that's to be expected in an old hotel. Nevertheless, the rooms have all the modern conveniences and are decorated in a charming manner. Ours had velvet flocked wallpaper and gilded chandeliers and wall sconces. The bathtub/shower was very difficult to get into, with only 1 grab bar in a not-very-convenient position. The bottom of the tub is very narrow and slippery. There was no rubber mat nor anti-slip strips in the bottom of the tub, and I slipped and landed on my derriere and now have a large bruise as a memento of our trip to Amsterdam. I never could figure out how to use the coffee maker (no instructions were provided). The small paper cups provided weren't large enough, and I managed to make several cups of lukewarm brownish liquid before I gave up and went down to the easy-to-use coffee dispensing system in the lobby. The location is great to tour all the canals and touristy sites in Amsterdam, but was quiet a night time. Our room looked out onto a small patio where the view of our neighbors was perfect, so we had to keep the drapes closed most of the time.

Room was exceptional. Beautiful, well equipped and quiet. Wish staff had been more helpful though.l. We arrived at 10:30 (too early for normal check in), but asked if we could have our room asap. Didn't get it until 3pm, because hotel had allowed departing room occupants a late stay, even though we were waiting! Also, no concierge or staff member who functioned in that capacity. And though bar was supposedly "open all day", it was only staffed for a few hours in the evening.

Hotel is in an excellent location to see Amsterdam. There are some great restaurants close by and most everything is within walking distance. The lobby and bar have a wonderful ambiance. The Gym has VERY limited equipment.

Best amenity every!
I think I'll return to Amsterdam just so I can stay in the Hotel Estherea again! The rooms were beautiful, the constant array of treats in the lobby were fabulous and the service was outstanding. My friend is a fragrance lover and was beside herself when she found out that the hotel has it's own fragrance and each room is provided a travel size spray. But the most amazing amenity? Each room has it's own cell phone that can be used--at no additional charge--- to make international and local calls and for GPS when exploring the city! The location was great, the staff were delightful and the phone has now become a must-have feature for future hotel bookings. If only there was a Hotel Estherea in every city....
