We explicitly asked at check-in for a quiet room suitable for light sleepers. Unfortunately, our room was quite noisy. Workers could be heard talking loudly, shouting and laughing until around 1:00 AM, clearly audible from our room. After finally falling asleep, a boiler started running around 5:00 AM, followed by hallway music from 6:30 AM onwards. This made it difficult to get proper rest. We suggest keeping the hallway music off until at least 11:00 AM. Guests come to relax and enjoy a peaceful stay, and early morning music can be very disruptive. On the positive side, the room itself was excellent—very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was also impressive, with a generous layout, high-quality finishes and a large shower with excellent water pressure. The hotel staff were outstanding, especially Bu Maria. Her kindness and professionalism made a real difference and helped make our stay enjoyable. We also had an amazing food experience at the Italian restaurant, and the breakfast was excellent. The only downside was that our egg order took almost 20 minutes. There were also quite a lot of mosquitoes at the Italian restaurant and during breakfast, which was uncomfortable. Overall, we enjoyed the hotel, facilities, food and especially the wonderful staff. With better noise management and mosquito control in the dining areas, this could have been an exceptional stay.

L'hôtel est très beau et le personnel est sympathique. La piscine est bien, malgré le fait qu'il n'y ait que 4 transats. La chambre est bien mais très mal isolée (on entend la musique qui est diffusée dans le couloir malgré les boules Quies) et de la moisissure était dans le placard sous le lavabo. Le petit-déjeuner n'est pas très bon et manque de variété. Le massage du SPA de l'hôtel était très bien mais le professionnalisme de la masseuse est à revoir : elle est partie 10 min aux toilettes en plein milieu de la séance et, pendant que le soin du visage figeait, elle écoutait les messages vocaux sur son téléphone.

Good concept and staff, pity about the management

The hotel was thoughtfully conceived and designed. The members of staff are warm and helpful and try their best. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The management however is clearly not doing a good job to maintain the hotel. The bathtub was heavily spotted with mould on the waterproof grouting. The clear plastic shower mat was so completely caked in mould we had to throw it in the bin. The bathroom amenities come in plastic bottles so hard that it is impossible to squeeze anything out of them. The wifi connection was possibly the worst we have ever experienced in our many trips to Indonesia. There was a cockroach in the room. We requested three times to have the leak in the toilet bowl fixed (caused by a faulty ballcock), to no avail. There are barely any diners in the restaurant, so we were not surprised the satay accompanying our nasi goreng was still frozen inside. There was also only one music CD (of nostalgic Dutch colonial era music) that looped over and over again the entire day, so if you spend more than a night, it becomes maddening.

A rising star

I had a great stay. A very well renovated colonial building. Interior arrangement and furnishing is wonderful. Some points to improve: - Hot water for shower was not stable. The water could occasionally get very hot during shower. Very unpleasant experience. - Need electric sockets that work with any plug, so international traveler would not need to request for adaptors. - Need more electric sockets in each room... laptops, mobile phones, power banks, gadgets. :) - Friendly staff is not enough. They have to be equipped with knowledge of Malang's good restaurants, points of attractions, etc. - Would be great if the telephone unit has hands free speaker. - Would be great if the restaurant is further developed toward a "celebrity" type; with a focus on local cuisine and perhaps a few Dutch / Indo-Dutch fusion (colonial) menu. - I think a simple but high quality a la cart breakfast would be better for a boutique hotel with only 40 plus rooms, rather than a buffet with a large selection of poor menus.

This hotel IS underated!

Everything in this hotel is wonderfull. I loved the ambient inside our room. I also loved the way they decorate this hotel, I feel like I was in the colonial age with some modern touch. Wonderfull! And, the Tong-Tong festival! It was awesome! I was stayed on executive room and it was great!! I can write many good things from my experience while staying in this hotel but I try not to be heard like a sales guy. Thank's to Mr.Sanjoyo and Ms. Putri and to all the hotel's staff for your hospitality & exellent services.
