Felt like a nursing home
We really weren't impressed by this property. Not awful - as it was clean, but really felt like a cross between a dorm room and a nursing home. The room was very austere and whatever they used in the bathrooms to clean it is exactly the same smell as when my Dad was in a nursing home. Not appealing in any way. I imagine if you were going to Universal, it would have additional appeal, but we were just staying overnight on our way from Osaka airport to Kyoto as we arrived very late.

Disappointing Amenities
The concierge service was wonderful. The staff are very polite and helpful. The hotel location for the park and transit system were excellent. The food was okay, but nothing to rave about. Fortunately, it was located closely to city walk which had many wonderful food offerings. The beds were really uncomfortable. I am not surprised given that most hotel beds in Asia are hard. This time the pillows were really hard too. It felt like the pillows were stuffed with gravel. For western travelers, it would be nice to rely on subtitles for television programs. This was't available, and the only program that was available that could be followed in English was Jurassic World which loop all day everyday for the four days we were at the hotel. I am sure there are more than one film made by Universal that could have been shown.

Exceptional 10.0
Room was very spacious and clean with great amenities. Staff very polite and helpful. Train station and access from the airport very convenient. After a day at USJ being able to be in your room in about 10 mins is awesome.

Hotel Universal Port
Stayed at Hotel Universal Port for a visit to Universal Studios Japan and it was great. Good price for the location. Newer hotel with great staff. Breakfast buffet is great. A lot of variety and delicious. Also, there is a ferry right outside of the hotel that will shuttle you to the Osaka Aquarium and the shopping mall across the bay. You can buy tickets for everything right in the lobby.
