The beach is beautiful . The room was a bit difficult for me. I have arthritis so there was no chair in the room to sit on, the beds are too low and it was a combined family fun and business for me. So the room was not as functional as I needed. I also don't think it was right to have to pay an extra $20 a night to park. As a handicapped person I had no choice but to park as closely as possible and then had to pay $20 a night so I wouldn't have to take my chances parking far away on the streets.

Location, location, location negates anything bad
Location, location, location negates anything bad I can say about this hotel. The hotel is comfortable, but I made the mistake of booking a room without a balcony and the a/c was rather marginal in our room. Our husband had a hard time sleeping at night in the August heat and maintenance could do little to help, except provide us with an room extra fan. Next time I stay, I will definitely book a room with a balcony!!

Paid right at $600 for 2 nights stay. For that price I can get a standard room at a Hyatt, so I expect the room to be clean and fairly updated. Upon arrival to the room we had to call the front desk because our patio furniture was so filthy we could use it. They brought us to new chairs that at least the seats were cleaned, good thing we didn't mind all the cob webs on the legs of the new chairs. The bath room was not clean, my wife wore flip flops in the shower. Here's the thing, I understand it is ocean front and a more run down non daily maintenance hotel however it is just over priced. $300 a night should at least get you a clean room and a room entry door that doesn't have gaps in it to the outside. In my opinion, even though it is ocean front high season, $150-200 a night would have been the high end for this type of hotel and room. Again if your going to charge $300 a night, ocean front or not, the property needs renovated, updated and supervisors for housekeeping because it just isn't worth the price. Especially when I have stayed at other hotels in PB and they are cheaper and cleaner. Just my point of view. The rest of the stay was fine. Great view, staff that we did interact with seem friendly. They charge I think it was $25 a night to park, no big deal. Close to eats, entertainment, bars and of course the ocean.

Beach front property for a fraction of the proce
Surfer Beach Hotel is a mix of good and bad- for us it was perfect! We were right on Mission beach and so I could go straight to the beach with my baby and go straight back to the hotel for a nap without having to walk for blocks. My other daughter had 3 days of surf lessons on the same beach so I could watch and not have to trek to another beach- I was able to juggle both kids and enjoy our vacation! I could not have done this at any other hotel for the budget we had! We also sat on out balcony in the evenings and watched the sun set and the evening surfers from there. We could get lots of good food within a 5 minute walk. The hotel itself is older and a bit funky- not luxurious by any stretch- but hey- beach front hotels are usually not in my price range! Also remember- San Diego is a big city! Although this area is a bit touristy- it is still directly in San Diego so there is city noise and city traffic- it’s not some isolated beach paradise! Also being at the hotel during one of the hottest weeks in San Diego- it was hot! And there is no air conditioning in the rooms- it didn’t bother us since we just took a cold swim or shower before bed- but I can see this being an issue for some.

Would never stay here again
Room was not clean and the air conditioner was a portable one. For the $300 price point you would think to have a better room. Also my card was damaged to the tune of a $1000 repair bill as some idiot that was staying there opened their door so hard it put a nice dent in my car and cracked the paint. Brand new car!!!! Not happy. I told the front staff about the situation but they basically couldn’t give a crap and still charges me the $20 daily rate for one day. Inconsiderate and I will never stay here again. Get some bigger parking spaces, the ones you have are only good for motorcycles !!!!
