FieldHouse Jones, Chicago
Upscale hostel with unique features
Location was great. Facilities were actually done nicely. Active lobby with bar, cafe, and TVs. Would recommend if looking to stay with a group of friends and everyone wants a bed. Didn't feel cheap at all.

Good Choice
I booked a last minute trip to Chicago for one night for a conference, and there weren't many hotel rooms available that weren't insanely expensive. This was the best price for a queen room within walking distance of my conference, and it ended up being a good choice. The sports theme decorations in the common areas are really fun. The room itself, however, was pretty drab. Kind of prison cell grey everywhere, with cold concrete floors that weren't the most pleasant to step out of bed onto in the morning. Still, it was very clean and well maintained, and the bed was comfortable. It was also pretty spacious, with plenty of room to put my stuff and move around. The train is literally right outside the window (if the windows opened I think I could have reached out and touched the tracks) and you do hear a bit of a rumble, but the sound-proofing is very good. I'm a relatively light sleeper and the train didn't wake me at all. There was also no street noise or noise from the hallways, so I appreciated the quiet and how easy it was to get a good's night sleep. Since I was pretty much only in the room to sleep, that was my priority. The free wifi worked great. The front desk people were polite, but not particularly outgoing. It wasn't mentioned to me on check-in that the front entrance locked after a certain time and I needed to use the intercom to get buzzed in, so that caused some confusion for me. Overall though a good location and good choice for my one night in the area.
