Cute, cozy, and spacious
We loved this place. Very large, open floor plan rooms with a bed + large sitting area with a comfy couch, table, and TV. Mosquito net over the bed. Very clean and modern. Within walking distance of the epicenter of Georgetown. Two minor issues (that weren't a big deal): 1) on the weekends, a bar up the street seems to have live music. Not an issue if you wear earplugs; 2) the bed could be a bit more comfortable, as it's on the firm side. But really, those are minor issues - this was our favorite hotel (out of four) in Malaysia, including two relatively upscale places in Kuala Lumpur. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Incredible luxury boutique hotel in UNESCO area
From start to finish our stay at the Muntri Grove Hotel was fantastic. The staff were wonderful at check in and provided us with a welcome pot of tea in our lovely room. The room itself was fantastic - almost a suite! Very large, it has a sitting area at one end of the room with a day bed, TV and desk, and the beautiful modern four poster bed at the other end of the room, with a separate shower and toilet in between (sounds a bit of a weird layout, but it works!). The aircon and wifi worked well (almost too well in the aircons case!), and the housekeeping and turndown services were very good. The only negative about the room is the noise, which did not bother my partner and I. However if you are a light sleeper, the live music from a nearby bar, the call to prayer in the evenings and morning, and the school nearby may be an issue for you. The breakfast was lovely, substantial and cooked to order, enjoyed next to the pool in a shady area with fans. The pool was divine- not large, but big enough to do a couple of laps, and clean and well kept. All of the facilities were fantastic. The location is fantastic - set just back from Muntri Street, one of the lovely old streets in the area, and just around the corner from the Blue Mansion, and a stones throw from lots of bars, restaurants and night markets. We found it a great base to explore Georgetown’s UNESCO area and buffer area from, and a lovely refuge from the heat of the afternoon. 10/10, would stay again!

A charming boutique hotel.
We had an enjoyable and comfortable four nights stay at this charming boutique hotel. Room was big, airy and nicely decorated and opened out to the lovely garden being on the ground floor. Breakfast was good. Pool was long and deep enough for a decent swim. Staff were friendly and helpful especially Esther. Some noise in the mornings from the adjacent school. Great location. Close to Love Lane, Lebuh Chulia and Red Garden Food Court.

Very Good 8.0
Had higher expectations
We were looking forward to staying at Muntri Grove since its 1 of Chris Ong's GTHH. We arrived at 11am and was told check in was at 2pm, but our check in was delayed till after 2. We had a room on the ground floor, spacious but in our opinion not as efficient/practical - 1. there is a glass back door in the room. day curtains would be nice beside the night curtains so that there is some natural light and at the same time provide some privacy, should there be other residents walking by. 2. Dressing table has no lights around it making it very dim for the women to do their make-up. 3. No facial tissue paper provided 4. Positioning of Air condition is bad, it's above the shower room and despite having 2 fans, the room is not cool. 5. Big day Sofa has low back rest, making it uncomfortable to watch tv. 6. There was an electrical trip which happened on our 1st nite there and our reaction was to call front desk, only to realise that there was no phone in the room! 7. Wi fi internet connection is very poor 8. Breakfast is a let down. The hotel is beautiful short of the above comments which I hope will be looked into. Will try Muntri Mews on our next visit. Looks a little more promising.

Muntri Grove - In the Heart of Georgetown Penang
We spent 10 nights at Muntri Grove and had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful only interrupted by the students at the school next door. You can also hear the call to prayer from the local mosque for a short period of time. We were given complimentary tea in traditional tea ware with delicious Tambun biscuits, a local Penang specialty you must try. The room has a colonial feel to it, spacious for 3 people, comfortable and clean. There was a coffee table and lounge with complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water. Basic toiletries including shampoo, shower gel and a hair dryer were also available. Mosquito coils and bug zappers to fend off unwanted mosquitoes at night were provided. Air con and fans were welcoming at the end of a humid day. When we had problems with our toilet flushing, the staff quickly fixed the problem and then moved us to a different room. No questions asked and the staff even moved our bags for us. Our bed sheets and towels were changed daily even though we didn't request it. The staff clearly took pride in their work and attention to detail is impressive leaving the room clean, tidy and even arranged our daughters stuffed Bunny on her bed! On Christmas Day, the staff gave small gifts to each room which was a really special touch (I haven't been to a hotel that has ever done this!).
