Overall, wonderful lodge. Relaxing. Rim trail couldn’t be closer, just a few steps away. Restaurant and tavern are delightful. Canyon view rooms are limited; select yours carefully (and there’s no microwave oven on the premises sans the restaurant’s ). Bottom line - always El Tovar when visiting the South Rim.

El Tovar is beautiful and the staff are above and beyond kind and helpful (across the board, everyone we interacted with) but you are paying for the location not the quality of the lodging. The views are stunning, the location is perfect but it's also clear that the building hasn't been updated in decades.

The hotel - while historic and well-maintained - has smaller rooms than might be expected by many today, but was charming and well worth it to step outside the hotel porch and be right by the amazing views of the Grand Canyon
