Excellent location at the center of the old town, with the historic sites just outside the door. Historic-seeming facade hides a dated mid-nineties hotel that needs an update.
Efficient, probably overworked staff.
I’ve stayed at Steigenberger hotels before and found them middle to upper scale and predictably reliable if a bit cold.
This one is quite ordinary, trending even banal or even a bit depressing.
A complaint that is partially about the hotel and partially Hotels.com:
1. The hotel lists very few rooms at what would be an average price for a good hotel in Dresden, but then doesn’t update the availability. “Superior rooms.”
2. Hotels.com then seems to default to a room on a later date. (Check this and be careful; it gas happened to me multiple times.)
3. An hour later on arrival, the hotel then says they won’t cancel or refund the later booking, but will put you in a “deluxe room” for about twice the price.
4. The “deluxe room” is perhaps a but larger but is a very ordinary room with banged up furnishings and dates decor overlooking a side alley.
I appreciate the effort of the staff to be accommodating, and Hotels “VIP” to help, but the whole experience is tiresome.
I’d stayed at a Moxy Hotel bear the new town station 7 minutes away by tram the night before that was less than a third the price and quite a but friendlier, mor pleasant and at least as comfortable.
