We have stayed there before and will stay there again. Nothing beats the location and pricing. We have also stayed at Silvermine. The rooms here are newer and the staff nicer The only point that we prefer for Silvermine is the breakfast buffet. But before you go you need to know the following: When the cab drops you off, it is a bit of a hike. Nice and safe, enjoy seeing the Cows and Ox if at night, but at least 500 meters. Breakfast is great, but it is the designated breakfast of the day. They will do slight modifications, such as a plain omelette instead of a ham omelette, but don't ask for an omelette on dim sum day. We have also had their dinner, again only one or two options, also very good. You can buy beverages at the front desk. Again fair pricing. Wi-Fi is advertised for the rooms, but super slow. The beach house wi-fi is close and free. Tiny rooms. Good beds and very clean. Don't pet the dog (the signs will remind you this as well) And don't do downstairs at 2:00 a.m. because you have jet lag and want to read without disturbing your partner. He will let you know that you should be in your room. Overall this is a 4/5 property. Probably not the best if just one night because of the walk to and from the taxi stand or the bus. But if you need to be in HK for a few days, this is best basecamp for your business trip or family adventure. You have a relaxing resort atmosphere and after a nice walk to the Ferry, you are in Central HK in 45 minutes.

Wonderful Stay at Seaview Holiday Resort
We stayed here over the New Year for 7 days & it was really nice! The breakfast supplied each morning was cooked to order at whatever time we came downstairs. It was plain omelette, slice of Asian bacon, baked beans & toast with butter. Tea & coffee was provided as well as hot water - an Asian thing we were new to! They sell pot noodles, crisps, other snacks, soda, and alcohol at reception. There were Christmas decorations still up, featuring a lot of Star Wars which we found really cute. There was opportunity to eat lunch or dinner in their dining room or in the courtyard, although we didn't do this, planning to experience the culinary delights on Hong Kong & Kowloon Islands instead. The staff were so friendly & courteous, even the ones with very limited English (which we were okay with as it is an Asian based hotel!), & helpful with questions we had about Hong Kong in general. The hotel is a 10 min walk from the main part of Mui Wo along a lovely beach promenade (note that because of renovations, taxis can only get halfway to the hotel and you have to walk the remainder. Renovations should be done by April 2017). It's 30 mins ferry trip to Central (Hong Kong Island (fast ferry, the slow ferry takes 50 mins). From Central, there are ferries to Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon Island) which run nonstop & take 10 mins. There are no subways to Mui Wo; there are buses that go all over Lantau Island, including to the international airport. Taxi to/from the airport is recommended

Quiet hotel 400m walk from Mui Wo Ferry Terminal.
After the first night in a very small room we were able to upgrade to a new larger room in an extension at the rear of the hotel. We were very happy to be able to unpack our cases and hang everything up in the large wardrobe. We had a lovely big shower with amazing water pressure, complimentary shower gel and shampoos etc. There is a good hairdryer. We had clean towels every day. 2 small bottles of water are supplied daily. There's a kettle with teabags and coffee sachets provided. Very comfortable bed. It is a very quiet hotel because access is by a concrete path along the beach front where there is no vehicular access. Free WiFi. There aren't any English TV channels. Sharon the Manageress speaks English which was helpful. Breakfast was either eggs with ham and toast or Chinese noodle soup with either chicken, frankfurter or pork chop. There was a selection of sauces and jams. Tea, coffee or orange juice was on offer. It was possible to use the hotel BBQ's with a pre ordered meat and salad pack. We would definitely stay here again if our son was still living on Lantau Island.

Some Pros, Mostly Cons
We ended up staying at Seaview Holiday Resort for 4 nights due to an unexpected typhoon. Pros: 1. Breakfast is generally good. 2. The rooms have all the modern amenities. Cons: 1. The rooms are TINY. I know this is common for Hong Kong, but I was expected a bit bigger room out on Lantau in Mui Wo. This room is literally a shoebox and once we put our luggage inside, there was no room to move around. Also the shower is comical. The door opens inwards and if you're Western and have a bit of pudge, there's no way to close it. 2. They require a 500 HKD deposit. We were taken aback by this as it is quite steep. 3. The WiFi is hit and miss. 4. There is only 1 English channel on the TV (and I think only 4 channels total). 5. The breakfast menu is unclear. I am a vegetarian and on the last day it said omelette and toast. The omelette was served with meat inside it. When I asked if there was any way to get one made without meat, the two people working at breakfast acted like I was asking for the most difficult thing in the world. 6. Location - This hotel is a hike from the ferry pier if you have luggage. It's about 12-15 minutes, and there is no way to take a taxi as there isn't really a road.

Dog friendly hotel
My family stayed one night over a summer weekend with a dog. The hotel condition was almost the same as the photos shown and it's relatively new. The rooms had all the basic amenities one would required, including kettle, hair-dryer, toiletries etc., the size of the rooms were adequate unless you had a huge luggage. You must inform them in advance that you will bring a dog such that they can arrange a room on the ground floor (dogs are only allowed on the ground floor) and there is a document with some harsh terms and conditions that you need to sign. They provided some amenities for the dog, e.g. a bed, bowl and towel, however, to be honest, unless they clean it thoroughly, dogs tend not to prefer staying and using anything with the smell of other dogs. Nonetheless, I really appreciate that the hotel allow dogs to stay and created an opportunity for us to travel together as a whole family! The hotel is also expanding at the new construction next door, hopefully there are family rooms for 4 adults + dog!! PS, If you are thinking of swimming, sorry, the beach is only suitable for sunbathing, the sea is totally polluted with black waves, it's under maintenance until 2018.
