A fee more observations from our prior 5-star review: Room was rather dark. Breakfast was rather expensive- but Le Rohan off the plaza Fey-Beyland provided an excellent alternative. Otherwise the space, service, decor, location and amenities were ideal.

We liked the Hotel Cardinal so much that we came back again! It checked all the boxes: helpful staff, large rooms (we stayed in the Pont du Pierre suite), free still and sparkling water, free coffee and tea in room, fridge, comfortable bed, elevator, air conditioning, and fluffy towels. The hotel has a conservation approach with shampoo and gel in large multi-use containers, water in refillable bottles and reusable glasses and mugs. The decor is understated and classy. We loved the location: right next to the Hotel de Ville and the main Cathedral in the old town. The F tram from the St Jean train station stops a block away. Bordeaux has a lovely and very walkable old town with amazing restaurants. Be sure to visit the historic Bar à Vins to kick off your wine tasting experience.

Outstanding location near brasseries, streetcars, and shops yet on a quiet street. Staff were friendly and helpful, making outstanding recommendations for food and entertainment. Very nice rooms with rain shower and mini kitchen. Nespresso machine started each morning well. Our six nights at Hotel Cardinal exceeded our expectations. We will return!
