Hotel Nikko Shanghai, Shanghai
Not as great as used to be
I have been coming to this hotel for my annual trade show, and i cant help but notice the decline in overall quality of the hotel. In general its still ok, but the check-in and check-out is becoming a problem, when staff picks someone who is standing behind you in the line just because they are chinese. It sounds horrible and strange for such a big and multinational city as shanghai, but it has already happened to me twice in this hotel. I was given excuse that my checking out process will take longer, so they have to let people that are easier to deal with first. Room condition is becoming a problem, i had to change my non-smoking room because it was smelling of a smoke, staff said oh its probably because the previous guest didnt follow the rules and smoked which has nothing to do with me. But to be fair they changed the room pretty fast. However that room had clogged sink and wallpapers that were starting to fall of the wall. Well, its not that big of a deal, so i stayed. Doesnt mean it should be like that. Anyway, cant say that this is a bad hotel, just a reminder for the management, that the high level you had before is not maintained right now. 3/5

Do not stay here!
** Do not stay at this hotel **. This is the first time I have reviewed anything online but feel that I need to warn people about this hotel. The service is terrible, I waited 30 minutes to check-in while the staff at the reception desk made various phone calls and wouldn't help me. Then when I left, I asked the concierge desk to order me get a taxi to the airport and they called up a taxi who the concierge desk was in cahoots with who took me the long way around the airport that ended up costing me an additional 100 RMB than it has ever cost me before. Terrible service, terrible hotel. I would warn anyone not to stay here!

Clean hotel
Clean room, nice looking hotel. Afternoon staff was great. Early morning staff was sparse and didn't speak English...not a lot in the area for restaurants, site seeing or shopping.

The deluxe room was excellent (good size). The hotel desk staff was not as helpful or friendly as other hotels I've been to...average. I stayed for 6 nights on two separate occasions within 10 days (3 nights each), and the room cost for the second 3 nights was $200 more than the first 3 nights...hotel room was a bit overpriced.
