Guadeloupe

What you need to know before you go

Guadeloupe is an enchanting archipelago in the heart of the Caribbean with jaw-droppingly beautiful beaches, rich culture and amazing food. Known for its butterfly-shaped main islands, Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe welcomes you to explore its incredible nature whether it’s on the exciting trekking paths or in the natural hot springs. Basse-Terre, the western wing, is home to the lush Guadeloupe National Park and the towering La Soufrière volcano with a network of hiking trails leading to cascading waterfalls. Divers will be mesmerised by the Jacques Cousteau Underwater Reserve, teeming with colourful marine life. Grande-Terre, the eastern wing, boasts stunning white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and vibrant coastal towns. The bustling market in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe's largest city, is a must-visit for its lively atmosphere and selection of local spices, crafts and fresh produce.

Don't miss a visit to La Désirade, the oldest island in the Lesser Antilles and, as such, a geological natural reserve known for its tranquillity and unspoiled natural beauty. Guadeloupe's rich cultural heritage is reflected in its music, dance and festivals, most notably the vibrant Carnival. The islands' Creole cuisine is a delightful fusion of French, African and Indian influences, best sampled in local beachside restaurants.
