I’ve stayed at the KEX in Portland, Oregon and was really excited to stay here. I stayed in a room on my own and essentially had a king bed all to myself for a very affordable price. The room was huge, and I had a view of the church from my window, which was an incredible surprise. The bathrooms were a little dirty, but I think that’s less on the staff and more of the other travelers in the hostel. There were a lot of teenagers when I was there, and they were fairly loud and messy. That being said, I would absolutely stay here again!

The hotel has a lot of unique charm. Much better than the cookie-cutter corporate crap, the vibe is hip & comfy, and I appreciated all the common areas. As expected, the private rooms are much nicer than the dorms, which are cramped and not the most comfy. Location is excellent - and the bar downstairs is a nice touch.

I have never stayed in a hostel before, but this was a great base located centrally in Reykjavik. Lots of great coffee shops, tattoo shops and bars/restaurants nearby. You can get breakfast and coffee at KEX, too, which was convenient for one of the mornings we had to head out early. The bus stops for excursions were also within a 10-minute walk away. Overall, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
