Pioneer Peak is the star of the show on any visit around Palmer, Alaska. This was shot just after sunset on an early fall hike up Bodenburg Butte. There are two access points from which to park and hike the butte; one for experienced hikers (next to the Reindeer Farm off of Bodenburg Loop Road), the other for everyone else (off of Mothershead Road). We always choose the latter. It has stairs!

Bodenburg Butte is 0.7 mi (1.1 km) from central Butte, why not stop by during your stay. If you like Bodenburg Butte, you'll love Palmer Research Center and Matanuska Experiment Farm and Twin Peaks Trail, both just a short drive away.

This is one of my favorite places to take kids, family, and friends when they come for a visit. It is a truly "Alaska" experience to be able to wander among and feed the Reindeer here. And the scenery on the way can't be beat! Landscape wise, Pioneer Peak is the star of the show on this trip along the Old Glenn Highway & Bodenburg Loop Road.
