Very good hotel with very poor service
Your location Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit I would have given it 5 stars if not for the reception's poor and upsetting attitude. The hotel is quite new, rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated and the location is very good; in a tourists' area with many bars and restaurants and close to the Skyline station. BUT, AND THIS A BIG ONE, the treatment we received didn't fit a respectful hotel. We booked and paid for 3 rooms, each for 2 adults plus 1 or 2 kids ages 9 to 12. The hotel confirmed our booking but didn't bring additional beds for the kids. When we inquired about the beds, the incredible answer was THE KIDS ARE PAID FOR BUT NOT THE BEDS. IF YOU WANT BEDS FOR THE KIDS, YOU HAVE TO PAY$40 FOR EACH BED. never in my life i've experienced anything like this. The hotel represents a price for 3 or 4 guests but it expects the kids to sleep in the parents' bed or on the floor. Otherwise, the price increases by 50% to 100%. This is nothing but a deceit. We were exhausted after a night flight and they refused to bring in the beds unless we arrive st the reception and pay the extra price. This was more than frustrating. After a few hours following our strict complaints they suggested to upgrade us to a better room for the extra price paid. But overall, this is not the service you expect to receive from a high class hotel. I wonder if this is the hotel's official policy or just a poor local management conduct.

Exceptional 10.0
Clean modern rooms in the heart of the Bangkok
Mercure on Soi 11 was a nice hotel in the heart of the nightlife area of Bangkok. It's a burgeoning area with many new trendy restaurants and night clubs popping up. The check in process was smooth, and the rooms were very nice and roomy. The floors, bed and items in the room was up-to-date, modern, and clean. The hotel has a a couple nice restaurants and bars attached to it as well as countless others right outside. There's a very nice big starbucks a few steps away which is great too for those interested. They have a shuttle that takes you to Nana BTS station which is convenient but I wasn't even aware of they had a shuttle or the schedule as they didn't mention it at check in. I found out too late. My only issue was the water temperature in the shower. I could never get it right. It would go from freezing to scalding back to freezing. Very temperamental. All in all, I'd stay again if the price was right. I prefer to stay on the main BTS line but late bookings and Chinese New Year really increased prices quite a bit. So that's the reason for my booking here and I was not disappointed.

Hotel is Disorganized Staff don't know English
This hotel just opened after a renovation and staff were disorganized. We had to ask several times for extra towels, soap, etcEverything took longer due to the disorganized staff. At the end of my stay, I paid for and received what I thought was a receipt and then checked out. My roommate stayed a bit longer and was asked to pay for my expenses again as apparently it was not recorded as paid in their system. I checked my receipt and realized that they had given me a copy of my invoice and not a receipt. Fortunately my roommate resisted in paying again. After arriving home, I called the hotel to sort it out and they told me that it was their mistake that the staff person did not record my payment in their system. I also asked them to email me a receipt and to this day still have not received it. A big part of the problem is that most of their staff do not speak or understand English very well or barely.

Value for money!
Checked back into the hotel for the first time since the renovations, the Mercure 11 used to be the President Palace Hotel. I always liked the spacious size of the rooms and the pool which is much bigger than a lot of the other hotels not to forget the location as Soi 11 is one of the livelier streets with street food, massage parlours, restaurants and clubs. I am happy to report that the rooms and the pool are the same though the entire hotel has been given a funky fresh coat of paint and everything has been revamped - the furniture, the interiors, televisions, etc. The staff have changed but are still very polite and helpful like most Thai people. The Starbucks in the lobby has been replaced by El Gaucho Steakhouse which is quite pricey and the restaurant on the opposite side is quite plush and fancy too with loud music in the evenings. Overall, it’s arguably the best hotel on Soi 11 and we had a good stay and would definitely recommend it especially if you’re with younger people as Soi 11 can get noisy.

Location good and staff obliging. But, it's best suited for smokers. We had booked for 4 days in a delux non-smoking room with city views. We were instead given Room 108 on the supposedly smoke-free first floor of this 16 floor building. Sadly it was far from being smokeless. The corridors reeked of smoke all the time, and the room always had fresh cigarette smoke from the ventilation system. The smoke seemed to come from rooms further along the first floor corridor. When we notified the front desk on the evening of 31 August they expressed concern but said they could do nothing about it other than to spray the corridor with air freshener. They said that some floors are designated for smokers, but that the ventilation system carries smoke to other floors. This is a serious flaw for a hotel that appeared to discourage smoking in the rooms. For us it quite spoiled our stay with this hotel.
