Amazing gardens, beautiful hike to private waterfalls. Has some service issues. Refrigerator was out of order in our deluxe bungalow and kitchen was missing basics like towels, dish rack and utensils. No information was offered about this and it could not be fixed. Personnel is awesome. Food is not a la carte, but it is a pleasurable experience.

This place is very remote. Super long drive over a slow bumpy road with lots of rocks. The staff does not speak good English and we had communication problems which made me feel badly since I am very courteous and try to be polite and humble, but they did not understand our questions. The rooms were nice but the beds and bedding not the best quality. The food was excellent, but you are limited to eating there, no other choices and it's pricey. The grounds are beautiful, they have the best waterfall! And a natural spa. It's a nice eco lodge, they aspire to be self sustaining and you can feel good about that.

Great place for relax and detox time. Eco-friendly lodge with awesome gardens, trails and a waterfall. Bungalows have a great view to the mountains. Excellent and healthy food. Road requieres a 4WD, but it is NOT dangerous, just bumpy.

The lodge is beautiful and peaceful. It's exactly what we wanted. Note however that the road to get there is an adventure. Do not drive at night! Also best if not raining or foggy. So if you are renting a car, you need a 4wheel drive SUV. The manager and staff are beyond gracious and accommodating. The food, which is grown entirely on the premises, is just divine. Literally the best food we had in the entire country. Bring your binoculars and camera. The wildlife and birds/bats/insects abound. It's quite spectacular. Can't wait to return.

This was an experiment, Macaw Lodge is not your typical hotel, it is a remote place of beauty and serenity. It started very well, seeing we were tired after getting there (use a 4WD vehicle and give yourself up to one hour to travel the last 12 miles long stretch of the unpaved road - it is well worth it!) the nice lady at the reception immediately suggested that we go to our room and rest instead of checking in. Our room had no glass windows, instead, one of the walls was just a screened opening. Falling asleep to all the noises from the jungle and nearby ponds and waking up to the birds was an amazing experience. The locally-grown food is well prepared and the breakfast beautifully presented. If you go to Costa Rica for nature, away from the crowds, I highly recommend Macaw Lodge, if you go for zip-lining, parasailing, nightlife and such, this is not your place.

There is not much to say over and above What others have said. Stayed with my daughter for 2 nights, and enjoyed bathing in the pools above the waterfall, extensive and safe trails. Be really careful walking around the waterfall as help is a long way off if needed. A 24-hour chorus of wildlife seems to change every few minutes. The chocolate is absolutely fantastic. We slept in and had all of our meals in the lodge. The food was delicious and unique. With each meal was a different kind of freshly made juice. The staff are all very helpful and friendly, and are obviously just as happy to be there. Thank you
