Perfect location and fantastic hotel

We celebrated our Golden Wedding at the Coniston Hotel, along with 12 friends. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The service was excellent and the location was superb with views over the lake from all our rooms. All our friends thought the hotel was a perfect venue for our weekend celebration. The Winston' s Barn private dining room was fabulous.

its a lovely hotel, fabulous view, comfortable accomodation. the lake walk is pleasant, and the walkway maintained to make it reasonably accessible but not fully pushchair / wheelchair capable. its great that its dog friendly and animals are allowed in and around the place food is very nice, all made to a very high standard. it is pricy but its very pleasant and you dont feel short changed. a good location for a special event.

Coniston Cold Comfort

As soon as you walk through the sliding entrance doors you feel at home. This feeling is then endorsed by the friendly reception staff. Rooms are very good, Catering is of a high standard but throughout our stay we were consistently impressed by the Staff. Thanks guys

Excellent Spa, disappointing room.

The SPA trip was excellent, not too busy and staff were very friendly. The main hotel was nice and clean. We were slightly disappointed with the age of the room. The bathroom shower was leaking on the shower head with mould on some of the silicon sealant. The TV in the room was very small compared with other hotels in the same price category.

The grounds were beautiful, with a pretty lake and signposted walking routes. Unfortunately the restaurant online booking system for the 3 different restaurants showed inaccurate opening and closing times. So we were booked into the bar for dinner, when we preferred to dine in the main View restaurant, which online said it was closed for dinner reservations, but was actually open until 9pm.The link for the online booking reservation was generated by Expedia through an email link that Expedia sent to me confirming my room reservation. I tried to change my reservation to the View restaurant when we checked in but the receptionist said the View restaurant was fully booked. We managed to go directly to the restaurant and got a table, and during our dinner reservation noticed there were plenty of tables, so it wasn’t fully booked at all. The opening times enclosed in the information pack in the room were also inaccurate. So I feel the the restaurant booking system and incorrect opening hours needs updating immediately so guests have the correct information. Otherwise the hotel was excellent.

Breakfast is good. Plenty of choice. Sausages are very good. Poached eggs were spot on. Got enough beans. Bacon is ok. Not overly keen on giant field/Portobello mushroom. I prefer saute'd button mushrooms. DO NOT mess about with the bread toasters! They toast bang on if not fiddled with. Some of the younger serving staff need more training. They should know what the soup of the day is, people do ask. They need to know what is in the sauces with the meals and that if you order a steak, you need a steak knife and if you order soup, you need a soup spoon. They should check the water bottles and glasses for debris. The room and en suite were spotless, well laid out and comfortable. The reception staff are great, very helpful and know exactly what they are doing and what there is to do. The grounds all around the hotel are spectacular. The views from most rooms are uninterupted views across the lake and into the distant hills. There are some great walks locally. The shooting range is world class. The shooting lodge is really a nice log construction. Facilities and things to do at the hotel and around the area are great.

No problem with the place it is in great shape very clean.. my grumble is with the restaurant/bar service, it was terrible did not clear empty glasses, tea pots cups and saucers from the table when bringing the next round. Evening dinner service was poor, brought out the chateaubriand with no plates for us, they came over 5 min later the stk was getting cold & a big wait for the rest of the parties food to arrive. Breakfast was just as slow slow service when all 7 order warm food at once you expect it to come out about the same time, this did not happen. When you ask for fried or poached eggs runny and they come out like rubber… the cooked breakfast consisted of 1 piece of bacon cooked to within an inch of its life so hard the knife would not cut it… 1 sausage, eggs as you like, scrambled over cooked, sausage, mushroom, tomato & baked beans cook perfect.. again they did not clear the table once plates had been cleared .. the staff are lovely, friendly & helpful but if the chef cannot cook runny eggs, burns bacon they are on a hiding to nothing… need to clear the tables of empty glasses, cups & plates..
