Very Good
Nice boutique hotel with a lovely bar and lounge.
I was only here for 1 night but I wish I had longer. The bed was huge and so comfortable I had the best sleep in ages. Once in the room it was quiet and peaceful with no outside noise disturbances. There was a lovely foyer bar and lounge that was beautifully scented and I would have loved to relax with some cocktails there if I had more time. Staff were pleasant and everything was clean and tidy. It was a nice touch to have a big screen TV and well placed on the wall at the base of the bed for comfortable viewing My one angst was the lighting in the room. Great for creating an ambience and relaxing but pretty dim for make up and inserting contact lenses. Unless I missed it, there was no way to increase the lighting and the lamps were more attractive than effective there should have been full lighting or a lamp at least around the full length mirror. The spot lights in the bathroom were not enough either as the bathroom counter was quite deep - a good thing, but increased the distance from the mirror and lights. Worth knowing there was no mini bar or fridge but there was complimentary tea, coffee and water. There is also a vending machine at the end of the floor. It was about a 10 minute straightforward walk to the Bullring and main areas. I will definitely go back and recommend staying here as it was a nice boutique hotel with a lovely ambience and relatively reasonable in price.

Poor
SHOCKED!!!
Rude staff......poor management and shocking attitude in general. Will not be going back and rooms small for the price. Had 3 rooms on the Monday for my work colleagues and myself poor check in then and unhelpful staff. Then we tried to check out the receptionist ignored me and my colleagues standing there behind the one she was serving and signed for a parcel and checked someone else out before me. Got a room again Wednesday night only one available in Birmingham near to where we was all staying we ended up working late got to 3am and my colleague who I rented the room for went to check in.....And found the receptionist had given it away an hour before to a random even though we had paid for the room. He then decided to be so unhelpful and rude and blame it all on myself and my colleague there. So booted him out at 3am refused a refund or to help find anywhere else. Totally unacceptable....haven't received anything from the manager or the hotel as an appology or some sort of good will gesture for the fact he had to go elsewhere at 3am. Hotel.com have got my money back thankfully. I will not be going back to pentahotel and highly recommend for the safety of a good night's sleep and your room safety that it isn't given away when you pop to the shop I wouldn't stay. Shocked!!!

Fair
Not worth it's price
The hotel itself is beautiful inside its warm and Inviting. I do find the booking desk also being the bar little confusing and it doesn't make you feel a welcome guest when your trying to check in but having to wait for people to order pints. Hotel room. The hotel room inside is clean and tidy. The phone in the room did not work and was very very outdated. Looked something prewar and for a modern looking decor with a phone that old it looked plonked. The phone wasn't even working which shows lack of thought. The shower was exceptional best shower I have ever used in any hotel in the country clean and tidy. My main gripe about staying was the pillows in the room. Called to ask for more was told I should have requested that during booking which as a first time user found bit of a cheek. Eventually no pillows turned up after asking nice. 723 bedrooms and not even 2 spare pillows. Even had to use the provided bath towels as a pillow which for the money spent on the room find that poor customer service to be honest. The advertisement for "bathrobe and slippers" well they must have been invisible as nothing what so ever. The TV might boast a 42" screen but has the functionality of a children's tablet. Volume locked at 30 brightness was awful with no way to change the settings. TV channels had no guide information and was constantly flicking back on to the hotels TV trailer. Found it annoying enough to turn it off all together. Keep it simple loved the shower disliked the rest

Very Good
Reasonable no frills hotel
We booked here because it is a reasonable walking distance from the Birmingham Arena. There’s building going on nearby so it’s quite noisy in the morning. We parked at the back of the hotel in what we thought was hotel parking, but were told it was staff parking, but it was ok to park there, and we still got charged the extortionate rate of £16! We were running late due to traffic so didn’t have time to find alternative parking. As mentioned in previous reviews, the reception is at the bar, which is a bit odd, but I was glad I’d read that. You walk straight into the bar area with pool table on entry to the hotel. Staff were friendly though had to serve at the bar as well as checking people in and out. Rooms weren’t large but they were clean. The bed was ok, though pillows were thin as previously mentioned and there was a second thin pillow in a horrible brown fabric, which I suppose was more for decoration, but could be used as an extra pillow if you could bear to put you head on it! I doubt if it is changed when the sheets are changed! The bathroom was ok, though I found that the water from the shower does run into the room and soak the carpet as others have found. There was shower gel but no shower cap, and I’d forgotten to take one with me. A hairdryer & tea and coffee facilities are provided. We didn’t bother with breakfast. Cost was reasonable for Birmingham. I would stay here again if there was nowhere else available.

Poor
Had the penta player pad room, however on entrance given two controllers which didn’t work; followed by a further two. Then told by the guy he needs to go, had no interest in helping. Then called down for someone to look into again and only given one controller, then cannot get a second controller as the first floor is using it. Whole customer service was poor with games missing and no WiFi on the PlayStation, meaning certain games didn’t work as they required updates. On check out was asked how the stay was said I didn’t enjoy no question as to why, rather just get rid of me as a customer. Then I almost go without my 100 pounds put back on my card as a deposit was required for games and controllers. Then I’m told this isn’t usually how it’s done and they just take your card from you. This then took time before refund was given, I’m glad the system was changed specifically for me as I must’ve really looked like a thief.
