Beware of ambush "service charge."
This is a "resort" hotel located close to the Plaza. It sits on a ten acre well maintained garden. The lobby is beautifully done. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. We stayed in this "resort" for two nights. After we returned home, we noticed that the "resort" had billed us 54 dollars per room. When I called to inquire about this "surprise bill" the woman at the other end said, "It is a "resort service charge. It was in the 'fine print.' We ended up paying $108 for two rooms, which I call, "ambush bill."

Makes you want to return
Very pleasant hotel/resort. Staff is attentive and personal. They make you feel like a welcome guest. Lots of attention to design. No sharp bends anywhere. Instead all architecture is curved which actually makes you relax. Room standard without any complaints. Good quality firm beds. Dining room with both more expensive food with chef that has a fun/interesting spin. The bar menu is also sufficient for most needs. We also stayed at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe but it was not even close in quality. Our trip to small Taos is something we will do again. This time, end of September felt ideal with respect to lesser crowds and really pleasant weather.

Beautiful place, mediocre staff
The grounds and rooms are fantastic. It is too bad that the management does not live up to the same standard. Service is not really smooth at car parking, the restaurant or checkin/checkout. We have visited this facility many times through the years and it has been consistently this way through two management companies. If you can overlook this and just relax, there is no prettier or more luxurious place in the area. Specific issues: cars block the loading and unloading area. Valets take a long time to register a car even when it is self parked. Management office is indifferent to requests: it took over 30 minutes for them to say reply that they couldn't find a non-down pillow in the evening and then claimed it was because they had looked so hard. The maid found four in five minutes when asked the next morning. Shower runs out onto the floor. Door to balcony took all my strength to open or close; my wife couldn't manage it at all.
