This is an overpriced establishment even for NYC. The only favourable thing is its location. The rooms are tiny and dark with no chair or desk. I was first given a room on the 4th floor that had such a tiny window looking straight at a wall, which gave an impression that there was no window at all. I complained immediately and was given another room on the ground floor, which had a window, but again no view of any kind as it was looking at a not nice looking small courtyard. Everyone is required to pay $10 a day for using their tiny room with snacks and coffee. The snacks are only cheap sweets (store bought mini muffins and bars), so if like me, you do not eat sweets and drink caffeinated beverages, you will be paying $10 a day just to refill your bottle of water from their water machine. There is no breakfast on offer as they do not have enough space for a breakfast room. The hotel is very small and has no elevator, just very steep stairs, so keep that in mind if you have lots of luggage or kids. The place is not particularly clean. One night, I found a huge cockroach in the bathroom and when I told the lady at the reception desk, she only said sorry, but in a way that suggested to me that this was not the first time. I could not wait to leave from that point on. I would never stay here again. It is overpriced, small and dark. Pay a little more and go to a better hotel, such as Washington Square hotel, which I now regret to have cancelled to save some money.

Disappointed
This really was going to be a 5 star for me and I'm so saddened that it's not. I loved the fact that you had to ring the bell before entering the hotel. Makes this stay much safer. This hotel really is the cutest thing ever. Although the young Spanish chick @ the front desk treated me like she wanted to quickly get rid of me, I didn't let that bother me. This is NYC, full of different attitudes even though this is HER JOB. Currently doing renovations so the walls had signs up about wet paint. Had a room on the top floor which was fun to walk up too. Very apartment style feel. I absolutely fell in love when I opened the door UNTILL... I unfolded the bed sheets and noticed several different hairs and dust all over my sheets and pillows as well as the floor. The sheets were so wrinkled it looked like someone just hopped out of bed minutes ago and quickly made the bed. There is dust everywhere.pI called the front desk and nicely asked if I could be moved to another room. I was told the hotel was booked, but a cleaning lady would be up shortly. The cleaning lady came with a change of sheets in her hand and a LINT ROLLER. She assured me the room was cleaned everyday and the reason for the hair all over was due to the terrible washer and dryers here. She said management gives these ladies lint rollers to try and take off the hair that remains. SERIOUSLY???? This old lady spent nearly 30 minutes with a LINT ROLLER

Exceptional 10.0
Great value for the price. I will definitely stay here again. Check in was quick and painless. Jallow was very nice and welcoming. Any time I passed workers in the halls they always smiled and said Hi. The room was spotless, very cute, and not a bad size for NYC. There is a 24/7 free Hospitality Lounge in the lobby. There are snacks (fresh mini muffins, crackers, granola bars) and a coffee / tea. There’s a computer and printer you can use. The room has a safe, iron, and ceiling fan. The bathroom has fairly fluffy towels, hairdryer, hair/body wash on wall in shower, plus hand/body moisturizer and liquid hand soap on wall near the sink. There is a larger flat screen TV and a nice-sized wardrobe. One complaint but not the end of the world - toilet paper awkwardly placed. Banged elbow getting it and need to bend/twist a bit to reach it and I’m not very big. Space is at a premium in NYC. I had a single room with a private bath. I didn’t like the front desk is in back of the building. Anyone can walk in and go right up the stairs. They said not to be concerned. They do lock the front door and have a doorbell. You do hear your neighbors but It is to be expected as this feels more like a B&B rather than a hotel. There’s no light or light switch near the bed. The WiFi was spotty and slow. It didn’t work near the window. It worked much better in the lounge on the 1st floor. This is a walk-up. There’s no elevator. I think they will help with luggage. Grace was so sweet at checkout.

Solid
Perfect location. Check in and out was quick and easy. They held our bags the day we checked out until we were ready to leave the city. They had ice machines but no buckets- so they got one for us from next door. Very nice. The only thing I would note was the room cleaning the day we were out and about. We came back and our beds were made, kinda. On one of our beds the comforter had been tucked in, but the sheets inside were shoved to the bottom. Weird. We also weren’t given fresh water glasses. We didn’t even Necessarily need a room cleaning. But if you’re going to do it, then do it. Also, my shirt that I left in the bathroom got bleach stains on it from when they cleaned as well. Honestly, we would stay again. The location and the price was worth it. The place was clean. The people were friendly. Just the maid service left a little to be desired.

5 Stars given the great price
I judge a hotel on five factors: cleanliness, location, quietness, does the heater/ac work OK, if there is a safe in the room, and price. I found the hotel to be extremely clean. The bathroom in my room was completely modern, so I would give the hotel 5 stars in this category. In my opinion, the location was close to perfect. Walking distance to Madison, Union, and Washington Squares and easy access to 3 subway lines, so I would give the hotel 5 stars for location. In terms of quietness, I was in a back facing room and there was absolutely NO street noise, however the walls between rooms are paper thin, so if you have a loud neighbor, it would be a problem, so for quietness, I would give the hotel only 3 stars. The heater/AC worked fine in my room and was quiet, so I would give the hotel 5 stars in this category. The safe in the room was HUGE so there was plenty of room to store your iPad and extra cash and credit cards, so the hotel gets 5 stars in this category (I HATE staying in a hotel without a room safe). In terms of price, my room was approximately $200 per night, which I think is a great price given all of the other factors. Yes the rooms are small and there are no mini fridges, but when you are in NYC who wants to spent time in their hotel room and the lack of a mini fridge is a small annoyance. The staff was pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel with the only caveat of the thin walls between rooms and the potential for resulting noise.
