Hotel Sanctuarium is truly a sanctuary. The property is grand and meticulously cared for. Surrounded by tropical jungles, views of the mountains and the valley below, it was by far the best place to stay for our trip to La Fortuna. And it is only a 7 minute drive to the heart of downtown.
There is a restaurant on site with exquisite food. Perfect after a long day of activities so we didn’t have to venture back into town every night to find somewhere to eat. They cater to any specific dietary needs.
The rooms are big and immaculate. They each have their own wall of windows that open to a large patio where you can sit and view the jungle covered mountains or the vast valley below.
From the time we booked (even before we arrived) the staff was so attentive and helpful in getting our excursions arranged, along with transportation. Genesis, Johan, Kevin, Kevin A, Fabiola, Yeraldin, and Dayana pampered us at every turn, delivering drinks and food to us wherever we happened to be on the property. They answered a multitude of questions and showed us around the sanctuary.
The staff were all fluent in English so it was easy to communicate but they also welcomed my efforts to speak Spanish.
I highly recommend this hotel. It was a truly wonderful experience.

I don’t have the words to say how truly exceptional this place was. Service was unbelievable, Kevin, Yeraldin, Genesis, and Fabiola truly made us feel welcome and really elevated our experienceWe stayed here for our last day and night. It was so great that we canceled our plans and stayed there the entire day. The swim up bar is a hot tub. We had a massage, next to the river, easily the best massage I’ve ever had. The swim up bar is a hot tub. Food was incredible. Extremely private we were 1 of 2 couples on the property.

My wife and I just wrapped up four very special days at the Hotel Sanctuarium, and I cannot recommend it enough. Since the hotel is so new and doesn't have many reviews yet, we weren't entirely sure what to expect, but I am so glad we took the chance!
From the moment we arrived until the second we left, the experience was nothing short of amazing. The staff is truly exceptional; they are so warm and welcoming that we felt both appreciated and completely spoiled throughout our entire stay.
Highlights of Our Stay:
The Dining: The meals were incredible. We enjoyed breakfast every single morning and had dinner at the restaurant twice. Each meal was a delight!
The Grounds: Everything is kept immaculate. There is a dedicated bird-watching area with a large variety of species to spot, which was such a treat.
The Amenities: The pool features a heated side with a swim-up bar that was the definition of relaxing. We also loved the path leading down to a serene river; it’s the perfect, quiet spot to swim and unwind.
Location: You couldn't ask for a better spot. It’s located just down the road from the waterfall and 10 minutes from the heart of LA Fortuna, making it a very convenient home base.
If you are considering a stay in La Fortuna, do not hesitate to book this gem! A huge, heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff who made our trip so memorable: Fabiola, Genesis, Diana, Kevin, and Yeraldin. You all are fantastic

We had an incredible stay at the Hotel Sanctuarium. The property and gardens were lovely. The hotel is new and everything was immaculate. The room was spacious and had a fridge. The restaurant was very good and had a gorgeous view over the valley to the mountain. It was extremely quiet and peaceful. My husband is an avid bird watcher and they put out seed and fruit for the birds and animals. They were fun to watch. The pool area is very nice. We enjoyed margaritas in the warm pool each evening after our adventures around the area. Often, we were the only people there. The staff bent over backwards to make sure were were happy. We did not have a car but there is lots of parking. It is close to La Fortuna and we could easily UBER anywhere we wanted to go. I would highly recommend Sanctuarium if you are planning a trip to Arenal.

This hotel is very peaceful. The staff were all very friendly and attentive to our needs. We had breakfast included in our stay and it was delicious especially the coffee. We felt secured in knowing there was a coded gate to be able to enter the hotel. There weren’t may people staying at the hotel so we had the whole pool with the stunning Mountain View to ourselves. A short walk (or fast drive) to La fortuna waterfall which should be visited. If you’re looking for a slow pace, chill place I highly recommend.

Hotel Sanctuarium deserves high praises. The property is absolutely stunning from the moment you pull in to the front gate to the welcoming staff waiting for you at the door. Such a warm welcoming with a welcoming drink and a tour of the property. Even have access to the river. The room is spacious and clean with a walk in waterfall shower head. The outdoor pool and hot tub with bar is a must with a beautiful view of the volcano. The staff is absolutely amazing. Dayana and her brother Kevin were great! Literally everyone was great and welcoming. Need airport transportation? Let them know and they can help you set it up. Need help with booking excursions? They got you! They made the whole process smooth. If you’re looking to come to La Fortuna, I highly suggest you stay here.

Its a brand new hotel, everything was very clean. The property was serene and all staff were incredibly kind, professional and personable. Relatively big property with limited rooms, which keeps things fairly quiet. They have private access to the river for a soak but they also have their own pools too. The kitchen staff was very flexible, going off menu to provide meals to your liking. Highly recommended hotel

Passing through the portal to undeniable beauty. It absolutely takes your breathe away. Then you step into bliss. The warmth and genuine happiness that comes from this place is incredible. The room is huge with insane views of the Mountain covered in a cloudy mist. You are instantly overwhelmed with the majesty of Mother Nature, Pachamama, that is before your eyes. We were greeted to that view for 8 glorious days. The restaurant is divine, with wraparound views of jungle and it’s many animals that are feasting below your feet. In the trees a couple of you and and some colorful dirás i have never seen. The pool area is enticing with the waterfall and sunken bar. A walk down to the River takes you on a journey that exposes you to a gorgeous strong River with a pool that you can step into. The staff are amazing, beautiful, kind and generous people that were picked by the owner, Felix. He has created paradise in the jungles of La Fortuna. Thank you to Dayana, Fabiola Allison and Kevin for my amazing meals. The máster chef created a farewell dinner for my husband and me that was delicious. Thank you to Johan for welcoming us into an incredibly outstanding stay. Your knowledge will only grow and your kindness will make even more people adore you. And then their is Kevin, the smartes II dear person ever. Staying here was paradise. I have stayed at a lot of hotel but this was one of the best. The staff was so kind, attentive and friendly. It is the kind of place where everyone remembers your name and makes you feel truely welcomed. Kevin at the front desk checked in multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed
The property itself was so well kept and magical, they put bird food and fruit out and you can see so many animals everywhere, we saw so many beautiful birds and wildlife, even Toucans up close. Some of the most beautiful landscaping ive ever seen.
There is even a private waterfall onsite that was just behind the hotel building that was truely special (short paved trail surrounded by gardens and trees that take you down to the stream) , you can really tell how much thought and work went into constructing the place. (I am a engineer so that kind of stuff interests me, I was blown away just thinking about how much effort must have gone into the landscaping and construction of the place)
The food was so delicious and breakfast was amazing, Kevin and the other servers were really great and really made our meals enjoyable. (I really liked the green juice and I had it every morning) The view from the dining area was beautiful and there is plenty of wildlife around to watch as you enjoy breakfast.
There is also ample parking. Everything was top notch, the service, the food, the room, the hotel atmosphere, If you have a chance to stay here DO IT! Truely special place

If you are looking for a place to truly have a wonderful time with your spouse, and share a very special experience with incredible staff and ownership, this is your place. The grounds are beautiful and immaculate. We had a five course dinner prepared by a personal chef based on our preferences which I would rate as one of the best dinners of our lifetime. We had a stuffed avocado, prawns, seared tuna, seared Seabass, and delicious mousse dessert, prepared table side with incredible flavors. The staff even created a special Valentine’s Day theme an additional recognition for our 35th year of marriage. We also had the primal massage, aside the rushing La Fortuna River, which was an incredible experience. The property is located 15 minutes from the amazing La Fortuna Falls, with views of the volcano Mount Arenal and grounds comprised of beautiful flowers and palm trees with visits from many birds and the voices of Holler Monkeys. Yeraldine stayed in touch with us, from initial reservation until we left, even changing her shift on the final day, to make sure she could see us off. Every member of the staff treated us like family. It is clear ownership has created a very special place, with incredible people, to ensure a wonderful stay. We will always remember Sanctuarium fondly, as our place to escape the grind and enjoy true inner peace and hope to visit again! Thank You!!!

I’ve stayed at luxurious hotels over the years and Hotel Sanctuarium has been my absolute favorite. From the moment we arrived it was clear this place is something special. If anything it’s even better than the photos. Everything feels brand new, impeccably clean and beautifully designed. The lush gated grounds are incredibly private and we felt completely safe the entire time. There are scenic paths in every direction, even leading down to a little river with a waterfall, plus stunning volcano views right from the property.
Our room was incredibly spacious and had every thoughtful touch like plush robes, slippers and vanity kits. All the small details were carefully considered. It felt elevated yet warm at the same time. Waking up surrounded by vibrant greenery was magical. At one point a tiny gecko made a surprise appearance in our room and a staff member immediately came to gently remove it. Special shoutout to Kevin who truly went above and beyond. He made us feel so cared for and even offered to help buff out a few scratches on our rental car. Such an unexpected gesture.
Breakfast was amazing and served à la carte. You have to try the French toast. The ladies each morning were so warm and welcoming. The combination of luxurious rooms, stunning grounds and exceptional hospitality made this stay unforgettable. We will absolutely be back.

Sanctuarium hotel is a magical place. From check in to check out. The property sits in a forest with a flowing river below. The beauty around the whole property is breathtaking!!
Most important is the one on one personalized attention and service from the amazing staff. Don’t look further if you have no children.

Beautiful property. Room was spotless and the view outside was amazing. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Johan gave us a tour of the property. Lovely views and a bird watching area. Breakfast and dinner was delicious. Would highly recommend.

We were a little nervous about booking a hotel that had only been open for about a month, but we’re so glad we took the chance—our stay was truly phenomenal. After seeing several other properties around La Fortuna during tour pickups, nothing came close to the serenity, luxury, and overall atmosphere of this place. From the stunning grounds to the beautiful art throughout, it just feels special. The gated entrance is a lovely touch and really adds to the sense of privacy and luxury.
The hospitality truly stands out: thoughtful, attentive, and genuinely personal. The grounds are immaculate, with natural beauty everywhere you look. The food is excellent, and every detail feels intentional. We loved meeting Kevin, Johan, Yeraldin, Andrés, Allison, Fabiola, and the rest of the team who made us feel more like family than guests.
The Sanctuarium far exceeded our expectations and was the perfect way to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.
