Nowhere else is Singapore's love affair with luxury shopping more apparent than on this 1-mile stretch of malls and retail precincts. Running from Scotts Road to Bras Basah Road, here you'll also find leisure and cinema complexes, galleries, and museums, as well as sculpted gardens and a park. Things to see in Orchard Road

There's plenty more to do here than just dipping in and out of Orchard Road's malls. Fort Canning Park, at the east end of the Road, is home to lush tropical gardens, ancient ruins, and an art center, all set amid immaculate lawns. The Park also preserves the Battle Box, a former British fort that stood here until independence. A museum explains its role in the Second World War, when it was used by both the British and Japanese. There is another museum on the edge of the Park— the National Museum of Singapore. It houses a permanent multimedia exhibition on Singapore's history. Then there's the famed Istana Park. It serves as an entrance to the President's official residence. A changing of the guard ceremony takes place here, and it is also home to the 80-foot high Festival Arch, which rises evocatively from a reflecting pool.

Thanks to its large malls and high-end stores, Orchard Road is a real draw for those coming to Singapore for a spot of retail therapy. There's plenty for shoppers to indulge in here. There's the Paragon Mall, with its exclusive boutiques. Ngee Ann City is great for designer labels and jewelry. The malls also offer up a dazzling array of dining options, when you're flagging and in need of a recharge. How to get to Orchard Road

Orchard Road lies right in the center of Singapore, but is easily reached from Changi Airport. A bus service runs from here every 12 minutes, and takes less than an hour to reach Orchard Road. You can also get a taxi from the airport. Once you're at your hotel, Orchard Road is well-served by the NS line of the city's MRT (Mass Rapid Transport) network, as well as by buses. Most locations along the road are walkable, making travel in Orchard Road a pleasure—as long as you've got someone to carry your bags.
