Things to see in Millard

Millard may be a little out-of-the-way for downtown sightseeing, but this family-friendly suburb has a number of attractions itself, several of which the kids will love. The Family Fun Center XL, with its laser-tag, glow-golf, and paintball, is great for those with older kids. Usefully it lies right on the doorstop of several Millard hotels. Then there's a Defy Gravity Indoor Trampoline Park, fantastic for energetic children of all ages. It's near to the Chalco Hills Recreation Area, a large lake-fronting park where you can spend your time nature-trail ambling, canoeing, and climbing—or just settling down for a quiet picnic. There's a similar recreational area in the heart of Millard, the Zorinsky Lake Park, which recreates the area's original prairie. For those with a sports interest, there is a minor league baseball stadium at Werner Park, home to the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Good for families on a budget

Millard makes a great base for families coming to Omaha to spend time at one of the big-ticket attractions in town, like the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. It's a safe, family-friendly neighborhood with many easily accessible and inexpensive restaurants (from Asian eateries to Midwest diners). There are several large malls close by and numerous open spaces and parks too. It also has plenty of affordable accommodation. Most hotels and motels in Millard lie near I-80, making it easy for you to reach downtown's sights (or the Zoo). Millard also works well for those passing through who want a convenient stop-over hotel.

How to get to Millard

While most fly into the city, you can drive it—Omaha is within striking distance of several Midwest cities. Two hours away on I-80 is Des Moines, while it takes 3 hours on I-29 to travel to Millard from Kansas City. Most will choose to arrive at Eppley Airfield Airport, though. Public transportation isn't recommended, as Millard is on the other side of the city, some 21 miles away. Driving from the airport to your hotel in Millard will take 30 minutes or so. First get onto US-75 at the airport, joining first I-480 W and then I-80 W, before leaving it at Exit 445.
