Things to see in Sha Tin


The Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery (Man Fat Sze) is positioned on a hill, and although the walk up to the top can be challenging, the path is lined with 500 Arhan statues which makes it an enjoyable climb. The complex is nearly 20 acres, and includes five temples, four pavilions, and a stunning nine-story pagoda. Perhaps the most impressive part is the (approximately) 13,000 statues of Buddha that line the walls of the main temple. Sha Tin is also home to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, where you can learn a lot about the local area. It features six permanent galleries as well as various temporary exhibitions that cover art, history, and culture. For some entertainment, the Sha Tin Racecourse is highly recommended. Even if you don’t like to gamble, the atmosphere is electrifying and it’s a great spectacle to witness. They also have delicious food and drink available.

How to get to Sha Tin


If you’re traveling from the United States, you can fly to Hong Kong International Airport. Direct flights are available from many locations, including Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York-JFK, and San Francisco. Once at the airport you can take one of two options to reach your Sha Tin hotel. The quickest way is to either drive or take a cab ride, which takes around 30 minutes. Alternatively, there are several bus services from the airport that go to Sha Tin. The E42 and A41 routes are the fastest, and take around one hour and 40 minutes.
