Smooth sailing in Miami

Minutes from Downtown Miami, and seemingly worlds away from the crowds of South Beach, stands Mr. C Coconut Grove, a striking glass-sided structure resembling a dry-docked ocean liner. Set in the heart of Coconut Grove, a lush, tree-lined neighborhood of marinas and waterfront parks, Mr. C beckons travelers with “a modern version of old-world simplicity and stylish European glamour.” Whether you’re savoring contemporary Italian fare at its Bellini restaurant, taking in sweeping bay views from the rooftop pool, or just relaxing at the spa, Mr. C rejuvenates every sense. 

Avid travelers may already know the Mr. C brand from its flagship Beverly Hills hotel, which opened in 2011. But its story starts well before that. The hotel group’s owners, Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani, are the great-grandsons of Giuseppe Cipriani, who opened iconic celebrity hangout Harry’s Bar in Venice in 1931 (and invented the Bellini cocktail there soon afterward).

The generations in between Harry’s and Mr. C Coconut Grove saw rapid growth of the Cipriani hospitality empire, with about two dozen restaurants, clubs, and hotels opening worldwide. Mr. C Coconut Grove opened in 2019, billed as “a modern classic,” melding good old-fashioned service with modern amenities. 

With 100 guest rooms and suites, Mr. C feels intimate yet explorable. The smallest rooms measure about 300 square feet and feature courtyard, bay or city views. Many come with added comforts like double sinks, rain showers, Frette Italian linens, pillow menus, and cozy love seats; all come with furnished balconies.

The 610-square-foot Classic Suite features a dining area, workspace, and views of the bay; the 1,400 square-foot, three-bedroom Presidential Suite affords guests a homelike stay with a 10-seat dining table, kitchen, living area, and three balconies. 

For almost a century now, the Ciprianis have exhibited a gift for impeccable service and innovative culinary thinking. That flair lives on at Mr. C, and particularly at Bellini, the hotel’s top-floor restaurant. Meanwhile, Il Giardino, in the lush garden, offers a full breakfast menu, as well as lighter lunch and evening fare including salads, sandwiches, crepes, and cocktails.

On weekends, expect live music, movies, and other entertainment—or venture a little way off-site to one of Mr. C’s designated spots in the sand on nearby South Beach, offering sun loungers, towels, umbrellas, and cabanas in collaboration with the Boucher Brothers.
