Villa Copenhagen is not your typical business hotel… unless you expand your definition of business, that is. As you stroll across the atrium to the self-check-in desk, you might bump into a world-famous musician in town for a show, or a soccer star here to play in a championship match; a world leader who’s come to the Danish capital for a political summit, or an Instagram influencer attending one of the many Copenhagen Fashion Week events held in the hotel.
Right next door to the city’s main railway station (with whom it shares its celebrated architect, Heinrich Wenck), Villa Copenhagen has always been a hard worker. It was originally built between 1909–1912 as the headquarters of the Danish post office; horse-drawn carts would roll into its courtyard carrying the mail.

Its transformation into a luxury hotel began in 2017, with a sensitive but eco-minded conversion: a dramatic glass canopy over that expansive courtyard, a rooftop lap pool warmed with excess heat from the kitchen’s fridges and freezers, and design details made to last, like the gorgeous oak parquet found throughout.

“Conscious luxury” are the watchwords here, resulting in some intriguing ideas. One of those is to ensure all spaces are used as much as possible, which resulted in a concerted effort to welcome the city’s residents into the hotel.
The courtyard is an all-day social space, where you can park up with a coffee and laptop (the WiFi is fast and password-free) or meet friends for drinks in the evening, with DJs providing the soundtrack. And its bakery-café, Rug (which means “rye”), has built a cult following in the city for its signature breakfast: a sourdough roll with whisked butter and cheese (ask for a BMO, or bolle med ost).
For guests, there are plenty of thoughtful details designed into the place: USB sockets by the bed; a clothes steamer in the wardrobe; floor-level, motion-activated bathroom lights; and a self-check-in desk for frictionless arrival and departure (a staffed desk is right beside it if you prefer).
And when the work’s all done, there’s plenty of play, too. Book into Brasserie Kontrast for lunch or dinner, head upstairs to the pool, cross the road to Tivoli Gardens, stroll east to classical Copenhagen for museums, shopping and the major sights, or west to the bars and boutiques of hip Vesterbro. In no time, you’ll feel like a local yourself.

What guests say
Spectacular! The pool was a place to enjoy a snack and recharge with an amazing sauna before dinner. The breakfast buffet had a huge variety of choices. The lobby was warm for both breakfast coffee and evening cocktails. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I’ll definitely stay here in the future.
David, 4-night family trip
Loved the rooftop pool and the sauna! Love that you had to schedule your pool time so that it doesn’t get overcrowded. The view from the pool was phenomenal and it was heated! Literally located across the street from the train station so it took me all of 10 minutes from airport to hotel by train. It is close to EVERYTHING!
Ashley, 2-night trip
Lovely place, located right next to the train station, close to everything, but pretty quiet and serene. High ceilings, great bathroom, very comfortable bed, fine linens, very friendly and professional staff. Highly recommended!
Oksana, 3-night trip
