Despite its hectic pace and always-on vibe, there are still a few places in Los Angeles where the relaxed glamour of the good old days lives on. Prime example: The Prospect Hollywood, a 24-room hideaway in the north of the city. “It’s just a really fun, beautiful neighborhood,” says Jason Perry, director of operations at the hotel. “It’s unique, because we feel like a residential building in some ways, and you’re kind of isolated and set back from the hustle and bustle of Downtown. But you can walk out the door and stroll to all these amazing places within moments.”
Tucked away in the walkable Whitley Heights area, close to the Hollywood Bowl and storied restaurants like Musso & Frank Grill, this is a place where the city’s showbiz history is soaked into the peppermint-tinted walls and plush vintage interiors, as created by British designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard.
The hotel preserves the original spirit of LA’s golden age partly thanks to the tight-knit neighborhood vibe that Perry describes, but also through the feel of the discreetly upgraded building today. “This was originally a 1930s apartment complex,” Perry explains. “We worked to really bring in a sophisticated sensibility while incorporating the old-world glamour of the Hollywood era.”
When you feel like stepping away from the modern world, or you just want to live like a paparazzi-dodging old-Hollywood star for a weekend (why not?), this is the place to be. “At the end of the day, we’re truly a boutique hotel,” says Perry. “We treat every guest like they’re a family member. When they step in the door, they’re going to find one-of-a-kind service you really can’t replicate anywhere else. It’s going to feel like you’re at a friend’s home. I think that alone sets us apart.”

What guests say
We feel like we’ve found a gem that we’ll return to again and again. The standouts were the staff and the courtyard.
Julia, 1-night trip
Adorable room, incredible customer service and a great attention to detail!
Monica, 1-night trip
This is a great boutique property, with modern but classic ‘old Hollywood’-style rooms. The General Manager provided a personable welcome on check-in and we loved the cozy courtyard. I was only here for a one-night stay but I would recommend, and come back if I had something else to be in Hollywood for.
