“We’re a step or two quicker than Vancouver’s usual boutique hotels.” That’s the claim at the Paradox Hotel, located on the Golden Mile in Downtown Vancouver. And it’s true that they have a lot of elements that make them unique—from the Chinese fine dining at Mott 32 (the creation of U.N. Environment champion Malcolm Wood) to the restorative, full-body treatments at the on-site Xylia spa. But really, this is a hotel that comes alive at night, when Paradox transforms into a true city hotspot, both figuratively and literally.
By way of explanation: Guests who go looking for Mansion, the on-site nightclub, might be baffled by day to find the space dominated by a swimming pool. A cool, inviting pool, admittedly, but not what you’d expect to find in a nightclub.
However, at a given command on a Saturday evening, the water gradually drains away, a hydraulic system raises the floor and a dance floor layers over the space where the waters previously sat. While the 9,000-square-foot Mansion clearly isn’t wanting for space, it’s an inventive use of mechanics and design to ensure that the relaxation of the day and exhilaration of the night can happily coexist.
Such innovation at Mansion is in keeping with the wider ethos at the Paradox: occupying a twisting, futuristic tower designed by the late architect Arthur Erickson, it is currently the second tallest building in the entire city. There are 147 guest rooms, including 16 one-bedroom suites.
The rooms make the most of the structure, with floor-to-ceiling windows, European oak hardwood floors, Italian marble bathrooms (with underfloor heating for those Vancouver winters), Fig + Yarrow’s organic, cruelty-free products, Nespresso machines and more. Hypoallergenic rooms are available for those who need them. There’s also a pleasingly intuitive control system for the room, with heating, blinds and lights all adjustable through a multilingual touchpad.
But ultimately, this is a place for late nights with a party vibe, bookended by nothing more than a short elevator ride to a luxurious, perfectly peaceful room. With a full-scale audio-visual element to Mansion nights, visiting parties from the likes of Toronto and Miami, special events for the biggest sporting games and an upfront music policy, treat yourself to a table “poolside,” and settle in for a night out with no taxi home.

Amazing location for tourists, walkable distance from major attractions, tourist bus stop nearby. Great rooms, beautiful views (we were on 17th floor), great guest service, and very clean. Would 10/10 recommend.
