Front-row stays for the festive season
Christmas is coming, and it’s the ideal time to check into hotels near the world’s most magical festivities. In Manhattan, near the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and the toy-filled FAO Schwarz, Lotte New York Palace feels extra special. In London, near where Regent Street meets Oxford Street, The Langham, London (pictured) overlooks some of the most dazzling light displays in Europe (plus it’s an easy onward train to Cheval Old Town Chambers to enjoy Edinburgh’s beautiful Christmas markets). It’s far less chilly at holiday-themed theme park Lusail Winter Wonderland in Doha, Qatar; try family-friendly Waldorf Astoria Lusail to stay a stone’s throw from the festive fun.
RSVP to Amsterdam’s biggest-ever party
When the organizers of Amsterdam’s 750th birthday celebrations tell you their goal is “to make the city come alive like never before,” you can expect quite the party. Running through October 2025, a year-long calendar of events will span everything from regattas on the city’s famed canals (pictured top) to late-night museum openings and dusk-to-dawn techno. This date has precipitated a citywide hotel overhaul: At the storied De L’Europe (pictured), new suites include a Van Gogh-themed hideaway; room upgrades and the launch of a wellness sanctuary make Pulitzer Amsterdam ideal for post-clubbing recovery; while 360-degree views from rooftop restaurant Selva make nhow Amsterdam RAI perfect to watch the party.
Prague’s new age of art nouveau
Design and architecture aficionados have been eagerly anticipating the opening of W Prague, and not just because Marriott’s plucky lifestyle brand has wowed of late by opening exceptionally stylish properties everywhere from Toronto to Sydney. The group’s first Czech property occupies the former Grand Hotel Evropa, a world-famous art nouveau landmark. A painstaking restoration means its standout original features still look splendid, but guests can also enjoy more modern additions including a slick swimming pool and stylish rooftop bar providing city views from its private terrace. Wes Anderson, eat your heart out.
Could “longevity hotels” help you live longer?
Longevity tourism is on the rise, with more and more hotel stays promising to set guests up for longer, healthier lives. One is the new Vitality Centre at REVĪVŌ Nusa Dua in Bali (pictured). The retreat sidesteps the island’s customary spirituality-centered wellness approach and instead focuses on science-backed longevity programs, including hormone analyses and rehydration treatments. In the Catskills, YO1 offers personalized Ayurvedic treatments, organic dining, and long-term health plans. Meanwhile, in the British Virgin Islands, The Aerial, BVI resort’s Elevate Strength Summit (held in mid-January) aims to “amplify your strength and enhance your longevity” through workshops and wellness practices.
Desert views and laid-back lounging in Palm Springs
At the new Thompson Palm Springs, by Hyatt, it’s not just the mid-century modern design and bungalow-style rooms that evoke the glamour and decadence of the city’s Rat Pack glory days. Overlooking Downtown and the desert, the resort features two cabana-lined pools offering full bar service, while the indoor-outdoor wine-tasting room is stocked to the brim with many of California’s best pours. If you want to be a bit more virtuous, Middle Eastern restaurant Lola Rose Grand Mezze offers lots of healthy options, and the airy gym is outfitted with Peloton cycles and other high-tech equipment.
