I purchased this as a Christmas present for my brother and his girlfriend. When they got there, they were not given the room I booked - the Squires Room (best room not booked out). They were offered a much smaller room as shown on website. There was no heating in the room at all. When they asked if the heating could be put on, they were told that the hotel had been closed for 5 days so the rooms would be cold. They asked to borrow a floor heating that was at reception and were informed that they should just get under the duvet. This was at 10.00 pm, The hotel asked if they were going into town and when they said no, they were informed the the hotel was going to locked for the night. My brother said they may wish to go out for a cigarette and the staff reluctantly gave a front door key. The restaurant could not provide what was on the menu, the starter they had ordered not available and then part of the main dish not available. My brother had been very unwell on the run up to Christmas and because the room was so very cold, they had to leave the same night. The hotel contacted me the next morning to ask about early check out and informed me that my brother and girlfriend had been shouting and banging in the room prior to their leaving. This was actually another couple who were arguing in the restaurant earlier. They attempted to call hotel all next day but no answer. Hotel called late to say because of early check-out no refund for 2nd night. Really very unhappy

The place is small but quite cute, the staff is extremely helpful and polite. The rooms were spacious, bathrooms modern and very clean. The only downside is the fact that it is next to a busy road.

The hotel and dining area is lovely.The hosts were kind and friendly. It is a longish walk into Canterbury. there is no free parking as promised, just street parking and it can be sparse and yout car must be moved after 4 hours.
