Pretty…just not practical
Don’t get me wrong. I love staying in historic buildings with all their charm and character, and The Gould is no exception. Our room had lovely high ceilings, a period chandelier, tall window and hardwood floors. But the bed was really high. I’m 5’4” on a good day, and the top of the mattress lined up with my waist. Watching a 68-year-old woman trying to pole vault onto a bed is something you can’t unsee. Awesome padded headboard but mounted several inches above the mattress creating a black hole into which our pillows disappeared sometime during the night. My other and I arm wrestled for the side of the bed with the one and only nightstand. I lost, which meant my phone and glasses joined all our stuff on the desk, the only other surface IN the room. Gorgeous bath with its free-standing porcelain sink, but that meant absolutely no counter space. Perhaps that’s why the two petite glass shelves were placed beside it. We loaded one shelf with all our toiletries, then minutes later heard a crash, as the shelf, we later realized, was not level. There was a small towel bar under the sink, and two tiny hooks on the wall. My bath towel had nothing to do with said hook and repeatedly hurled itself onto the floor. No refrigerator in the room and no ice maker on the floor. Cute town though, and lovely dinner at Parkers Grille & Tap House.
