Great hotel in excellent location
The Hotel Julian is in an excellent location to explore downtown and visit many tourist areas. The hotel itself is clean decently priced. The conditions were a little different due to us visiting during the weekend of Lollapalooza, but for the most part the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Great location - but was it worth $200/night?
This is a nice hotel, with some oddities about it. The room we had was efficient, but the window looked out on another building about ten feet away, and there was very little natural light coming in. We seriously could not tell what the weather was like outside. This was very disappointing. There were no drawers for clothes, and the 'closet' was tiny and barely serviceable for more than five or six pieces of hanging clothes. Perhaps the oddest thing was we ordered room service for breakfast one morning, and it came in all plastic takeout containers. There was really no easy way to eat it, as not even a tray was provided for a hard service. We sat on the bed, to eat steak and eggs, etc. cutting up the steak with a plastic knife on the bedspread, which obviously got messy. While the food was good, the experience of eating with plastic takeout containers on our laps while sitting on the bed (there is only one chair in the room, and no real desk) was not something I would want to repeat. I understand that it's more convenient for the hotel to not have to come up and pick up a tray or takeout table from your room, but if you are paying $45 for breakfast for two, it should be easier to eat and a nicer presentation. And re parking - the hotel charges $72/night. REALLY??? The receptionist said all the garages around charged the same thing. Ummm NO. A short two blocks away you can park at Millennium garage soft $22/night with a parking app. Ridiculous.
