Fancy looking but poor execution
I had reserved this hotel for my girlfriend and her friend to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, however, once they arrived, they experienced the following two impacting issues: First issue: Payment and identification verification 1. Hotel claimed to not have received the payment although it was previously confirmed by the hotel itself through the Hotels.com chat window; this inconvenience caused her friend to have to also make payment. Having two payments made and on top of taking the hotel five days to verify payment, they were dishonest on the reimbursement, claiment to have made it but when asked for proof they admited to not have proceeded. 2. Regarding the ID verification, the credit card used by my girlfriend had no name imprinted on the physical card itself, to convince the hotel, my girlfriend used the last four digits along with her payment statement which shows her name, backing it up with passport, and other forms of ID; the receptions and the supervisors denied this two step verification because of the hotel rule was that it must have the name imprinted on the credit card rather than having the logic and providing a good service instead. Second issue: Hotel upkeep (Fancy looking but poor execution) 1. Four euros for a bucket of ice. 2. For the birthday celebration, the hotel gave a couple of sweets, explaining the sweets were the ones the king would give to his mistresses which I found to be offensive. 3. Showers didn't have cold water and was not fixed.

Generally nice hotel with a few odd quirks
The hotel was generally lovely with some idiosyncrasies: 1. The room doors slam and are audible from our room. So when the neighbours go in and out, you feel the walls shake. 2. The hotel pool is a dipping pool. And no one uses it because it’s awkward when there’s about 20 people milling about fully dressed sipping cocktail or playing with their phones while you’re the only one dipping (it’s too small for a proper swim); 3. In our room, which was very nice, the WC is frosted glass and open at the top (the room has a high ceiling). So if you’re sitting on the WC doing your business with the lights on, your room mate will see everything, hear everything and potentially smell everything. : ) . You’ll quickly break the ice if it’s a first time romantic trip with a new partner ! Very European ! Otherwise, the room we were in was well equipped and pleasant. The building itself is a lovely old building with courtyards and antique stairs. Very nice. The hosts are friendly and helpful as you would expect. Thank you very much. The location is central but it’s hard to think that any hotel in central Madrid isn’t well-placed. It just depends on what you want. For us, we preferred the grittiness of Lavapies and La Latina over the throngs of tourists in Centro, all of which are within easy meanders.
