Very nice traditional ryokan. The room was very nicely kept and the staff was amazingly helpful.

Beautiful traditional hotel at a reasonable price!
Village Kiramachi was an amazing experience. My wife and I stayed there for 6 nights during our honeymoon. The staff were incredibly nice and accommodating, the hotel (ryokan) itself is a work of art, the neighborhood is a gem, the one complimentary Japanese breakfast was excellent, and the price is very reasonable compared to other ryokans in Kyoto. We stayed during a great time -- Gion Festival in July, which had a number of parade events just around the corner. Our stay took place in both a standard room, and then an upgraded suite with outdoor garden/soaking tub, both of which were impeccably designed with incredible attention to detail -- the recessed lighting, soft wood floors, garden scenery, even the scent stick diffusers, were all top notch. I also had the fortunate pleasure of meeting the architect / construction expert who built the facility, who happened to be on site working on expansions, which allowed me to learn more about the process, history, and design behind the traditional elements of the hotel facility. To top it all off, one of the hotel staff, who happened to have a car, was kind enough to drop us off at the train station when we left. We truly could not have asked for more!

First time visiting Japan
Probably one of the best ryokans in Kyoto. It’s located in a quiet street and close to bus and subway stations. Everything is very clean and well maintained. The manager and staffs are so friendly and nice.

Village Kiramachi
If you’re looking for a traditional ryokan experience in Kyoto, I highly recommend Village Kiramachi. It’s 5-10 minute walking distance from Shijo Station and a 10-15 minute taxi ride from Kyoto Station. It’s centrally located and walking distance to lots of restaurants, shopping, and attractions like Nishiki Market. Village Kiramachi is on a small street off of Shijo-dori and is composed of either 8 or 9 two-story units. The main gain closes around 10 pm, but they give you a key if you need to get in after then. We stayed in the Tsuki accommodations. You must remove your shoes before entering and a mat is provided to store your luggage on. The first floor has a seating area with cushions and table, closet and some hangers, small fridge, kettle, water/tea/coffee, and a bathroom. Up the narrow flight of stairs is the sleeping area with futons and another bathroom. I appreciated that the sleeping area can be separated with sliding doors, especially if someone in your party snores. A complimentary, traditional breakfast was provided for one morning, which was delicious. The main reason why I enjoyed my stay was the excellent service. Everybody who works here is super nice and friendly. They even went above and beyond to personally help transport us and our luggage to Kyoto Station when we needed to catch the shinkansen back to Tokyo. If you’re looking for the traditional Japanese experience and great service, book your stay here!

Best place in Kyoto!!!
Out of all the places I stayed at in Japan this was my favorite. Everything was exceptional. The staff was extremely friendly, the rooms were clean and beautiful, and the location was great. The only thing that may need some improvement would be the the AC in the bedroom. It would turn off on us at night and it would get hot in the room. If I ever come back to Japan this is where I will stay.
